My Vote Stands for Equality

In a time of unrest, my vote stands for peace.

The election is right around the corner on November 8th, and like many others, I have already my choice for this year. My vote stands for a little bit more than I expected though with Donald Trump as her opponent.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that Hillary Clinton isn't an angel, but my vote is for her because it means something to me.

My vote stands for LGBT+ rights because while both presidential candidates don't have a great record since Clinton has recently come around to see that everyone deserves these rights, Mike Pence has been staunchly LGBT+. Pence has voted for recent discrimination laws and conversion therapy that is dangerous to many of the LGBT+ community.

My vote for Hillary stands for letting refugees that would die into our country because I value their lives. They'll still be vetted before they come in, but I don't want a president to leave a country under a terrorist regime on their own when we can help.

My vote stands for ending gun violence. With over 300 instances of mass shootings so far this year, stricter gun laws are necessary. Background checks and keeping guns out of abusers' hands is definitely a step towards that.

My vote represents a fight to end police brutality and reforming the justice system. After the recent awareness in violence by police, especially against people of color, it is time for a chance.

My vote stands for making college affordable. College is treated like a necessity but priced like a luxury which means the average student graduate with over $37,000 in debt. We should be starting our lives, not drowning in debt.

My vote stands for taking children out of poverty. One in five children live in poverty. No child deserves to starve or be homeless.

My vote stands for women's rights. We have a right to our bodies in abortion. The ability to control my body is my right, the right to good health care is vital, and my right to earn as much as the man next to me and be hired without discrimination should never be stepped on. I shouldn't earn at 80% of what a man makes for the same job, and it would be worse if I wasn't white. No one deserves that.

My vote for Hillary stands for the environment since it can't speak for itself. After watching the Dakota Access Pipeline ordeal, the environment needs to be spoken for more than ever.

My vote stands for equality and moving forward.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
