6 Ways To Look Like A Vogue Ad On A Student Budget
Julia Caesar

I am someone who spends an objectively inordinate amount of time scrolling through my Instagram feed. I am also someone who takes great pleasure in discovering brands from which none of my friends own.

That being said, I’m a high school student with no steady source of income and, consequently, I am forced to be budget-conscious. As my almost-holiday gift to you, here are the best online boutiques I have found on Instagram; they are unique, good-quality, and affordable on even a babysitter’s dime.

Disclaimer: none of these are advertisements. Though I have worked with two of the brands listed, my recommendations are always completely impartial!

1. Hazel and Olive

I cannot say enough good things about Hazel and Olive! Based in Texas, the clothes are primarily in the $20-30 range, and the quality is impeccable. I have been purchasing their styles for months now, and they’re officially my go-to for both casual wear and fun dresses. As a bonus, they recently launched a children's collection that is both cute and affordable. (so rare, right?!)

What I’m loving now: “Stroke of Midnight Cocktail Dress — Burgundy” (looking ahead to holiday party season)

Shop: www.hazelandolive.com

2. Simmi Shoes

Finally, a retailer that understands the budget constraints of students! Simmi Shoes is an outstanding, unique footwear outlet based in the United Kingdom offering a 10% student discount on all styles. I first discovered them through a blogger I follow, and have been obsessing over their shoes for weeks. (They have bedazzled slides?!)

What I’m loving now: “Alexia Black Suede Mesh Ankle Boots”

Shop: www.simmi.com

3. Keel’s Simple Diary

I have always wished I had the motivation to keep a journal, yet have failed in all of my attempts thus far. Keel’s Simple Diary is a $15 guided journal that will, without a doubt, help you to organize your thoughts and preserve your memories for years to come.

What I’m loving now: “Volume One in Red”

Shop: www.simplediary.com

4. Pretty Little Thing

With gorgeous, own-the-night party dresses from just $12 and a new kollaboration with Kourtney Kardashian, Pretty Little Thing is going to be your newest addiction. Their site is a one-stop shop for everything from clothes to jewelry and from accessories to shoes!

What I’m loving now: “Fuchsia Satin Lace Trim Strappy Bodycon Dress” (from Kourtney’s kollection, of course!)

Shop: www.prettylittlething.com

5. Cute Booty

I’ll admit that I exclusively browse the “Super Sale” section ($5-39), but Cute Booty's loungewear just can’t be beat! I am currently obsessing over their cozy pullovers and fashion-y yoga pants. They are so on trend, and super comfortable to boot! I also love that this company is based in Los Angeles, as I always feel best when I purchase domestic products.

What I’m loving now: The “Boho Booty in Paisley Elephant” Pant

Shop: www.cutebooty.com

6. Retrospective Jewellery

If you're looking to splurge on an innovative necklace that no one else will have, look no further than UK-based brand Retrospective Jewellery. ($55) However, Retrospective also houses great pieces for the same prices as chains like Gap and J. Crew. (Around $20!) All of their collections, especially “Futuristic Fifties,” are truly what dreams are made of!

What I’m loving now: “Cat's Ear Ring”

Shop: www.retrospectivejewellery.com

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
