The Keystone State is home to many country lovers, as well as some city dwellers. Pennsylvania isn’t typically on the top of everyone’s “must visit” list, but there are plenty of reasons why it is a great place to vacation. A year in Pennsylvania is full of diverse activities for every person’s interests. That being said, every season welcomes new adventures.
Spring and summer basically combine to be one big season in Pennsylvania. In the springtime, temperatures begin to warm up but do not get to be too hot. The wildlife begins to come out from hibernation. The ski resorts start closing one by one while the waterparks and fairs quickly re-open. Depending on which area of Pennsylvania you are visiting, the mom and pop flower shops switch on their “open” lights. Horseback riding and other leisurely sports regain popularity. During the summer months, waterparks such as Dorney Park and Camelback Mountain are the big tourist spots as well as Knoebels Amusement Park Resort and Hershey Park. The whole town of Hershey smells like chocolate and it is amazing. You can visit a chocolate factory to see how it is made and go on a rollercoaster while you’re at it. Also, not far from Hershey Park is the town where Taylor Swift grew up. Another staple of summer in Pennsylvania are the Philly cheesesteaks. Served warm and delicious, I highly recommend them.
I also suggest visiting Amish Country in Lancaster County. There are shops that sell handmade foods and authentic horse and buggies. It is one of the quieter areas of the world that will definitely have you looking at life from a different perspective.
Our beautiful lakes and historical landmarks will give you a home-y feeling during the spring and summer. We have cool creeks and gorgeous waterfalls along our famous hiking trails. Additionally, there are plenty of parks with bike trails. Wherever you go, there will likely be ample shade from the hot sun, thanks to the many trees in the rural areas.
The fall months are my favorite, personally. Many people come to the northeast to see the colors of the leaves on the trees. Some enjoy jumping into piles of raked leaves, while others like the fact that it is hot chocolate and warm cider season. Warm apple cider and other Dutch treats are very popular during the fall in Pennsylvania.
The ski resorts in eastern Pennsylvania bring many people to the state in the winter. Snow is not something that is scarce in the northeast, so winter sports are very popular. On every Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, thousands of people come to see if our resident groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, will predict a few more weeks of winter or not. It is a fun time of the year for families, and Phil is adorable.
Any time during the year is a perfect time to visit Pennsylvania. There are so many more reasons to visit Pennsylvania, because no two towns are the same. Whether you are into art, history, nature or good food, you will find something that you like and learn something new.
