Why You Should Visit Your Best Friend's College

Seeing your best friends from high school is always so much fun. During the holidays, there is nothing better than catching up with old friends and hearing about their lives in college. You absolutely have to get caught up with all the hot gossip on other campuses. But, it is a whole different experience when you visit them at their college. Since high school, they have started a whole new life and made new friendships. They probably live miles away from you and you don't talk as much as you used to. That's why it is so much fun to visit your best friend's college.

My best friend from high school, Pippa, goes to Villanova University in Pennsylvania while I go to SMU in Texas. We are thousands of miles apart and we talk almost every day. Even though we maintain our now long distance friendship, we still wanted to find time in our crazy schedules to visit each other. Last year, I visited her on campus right before her finals week. It was crazy to see her new life and hear about all of her classes. I loved meeting her friends and was so happy that she was enjoying college. But it was still strange to see that she'd moved on from high school. I knew that I had moved on with my life, but accepting that my friends had too was hard to believe at first.

Now, Pippa is flying in this weekend to visit me at SMU. I want to introduce her to my friends and show her around campus. I want to show her why I chose SMU and why I keep raving about it. Dallas is such a fun city and nothing like where she goes to college. Also, Texas is like no other state I've ever been to. Especially coming from the North East, Texas is one of a kind.

My life has changed so much since high school now that I am on my own. I'm not depending on my parents anymore to help me make decisions, but I'm making them on my own. It might be strange for her to see my new life since high school but that is what college is all about.

If it's possible, I would encourage everyone to visit their friend's colleges. It gives you perspective of where you are in life and how you're changed over time. Since being at SMU and seeing other colleges, I am so thankful that I can call SMU my home. I know I made the right choice in coming to Dallas. I am so excited to show my best friend how I've grown here at SMU and introduce her to my new home.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
