Virginia is the perfect state to take a study break outdoors by rounding up some friends to go out for a hike.

With the Appalachian Trail, the Shenandoah National Park, Jefferson and George Washington National Forests, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive all making up parts of Virginia, it is easy to be overwhelmed by hiking choices for your fall semester in the mountains.

In order to help you, pick out your next hike, I have put together a list of 17 hikes that you can choose for your next adventure in the beautiful Virginia Outdoors.

1. Buffalo Mountain

This hike is in Willis, VA. It is perfect for either a sunrise or sunset hike! The summit gives you 360 views that will surely take your breath away. I highly recommend making your favorite cup of coffee, grabbing a headlamp and a sweatshirt to watch the sunrise from this summit.

2. Dragon's Tooth

This hike is in Catawba, VA. Dragon's Tooth is part of the Triple Crown in Southwest Virginia. It is one of the more well-known hikes so on any warm day this hike may be crowded, but if you are up to do a rock scramble in the dark this hike is perfect to perch at the top of the rocks and watch the sunset.

3. Crabtree Falls

This hike is in Nelson County, VA. Crabtree Falls has beautiful views of waterfalls all the way up to the breathtaking view you see above.

4. Humpback Rocks

This hike is in Waynesboro, VA. This is a short hike that gains elevation rapidly to bring you to a view that you will inspire awe in you. It truly is one of those hikes that once you get to the top you never want to leave.

5. The Cascades

This hike is in Giles County, VA. The Cascades is one of the more well-known waterfalls in Virginia. The height of the falls rings in just under 70 feet. Pro Tip: Go in the winter to see the waterfall completely frozen, it is truly one of a kind experience to see that much water completely frozen.

6. High Knob Fire Tower

This hike is on the Virginia/West Virginia border. This is my favorite hike I have done for sunset to date. This hike is steep, but once you get to the top and climb up onto the fire tower you have sweeping 360 views that will have you mesmerized.

7. Rice Fields

This hike is in Pearisburg, VA. This hike's summer opens up to a ridgeline that is part of the AT. The ridge's beautiful fields allow you to see the valley below so clearly. Pro Tip: Make sure you take your allergy medicine before this hike. The field has lots of growing flowers and weeds which could flare up your allergy to pollen even out of season.

8. Stiles Falls

This hike is in Shawsville, VA. This is a quick hike with high reward. The hike itself is not strenuous at all. Then you get to the part of the falls that pools at the bottom – it is the perfect way to cool off in the summertime.

9. Reddish Knob

This hike is in Briey Branch, VA. This is a strenuous hike, however, it is a highly populated hike. You may ask – why is that? Well, because you can actually drive to the top of this hike to see the indescribable sunrise or sunset without having to wake up at 3 AM or having to worry about hiking down in the pitch black.

10. Bearfence Mountain

This hike is in Elkon, VA. This hike is perfect to check out the fall foliage take full effect with the view of the surrounding mountains at the summit this hike should move to the top of your list to tackle in the fall.

11. Hone Quarry Trail

This hike is in Dayton, VA. This hike has views that make you wish you had your best friend with you to take it all in with. Make this your next Saturday adventure with your friend group. Pack a lunch and some water and head to the trailhead to check out Hone Quarry Trail.

12. Doyle's River Falls

This hike is in Shenandoah National Park. These falls are some of the prettiest in Virginia. The delicacy in which the water trickles down the falls will bring an ease to your being. This hike will truly remind you that being outdoors is good for the soul.

13. Riprap Hollow Trail

This hike is in Shenandoah National Park. This hike is a loop that will never stop offering you something to look at. All along the way, you will be able to look at something beautiful that will remind you just how little you are in this world and instill your gratefulness that you are alive.

14. Storybook Trail

This hike is in Luray, VA. This hike is another good one for a sunset hike. Grab some friends and pack a picnic dinner to head to this summit. Just make sure you have a headlamp if you plan to head down after the sun completely sets.

15. Old Rag

This hike is in Shenandoah National Park. This is one of the most well-known hikes in Virginia. Old Rag has some stellar views with a rock scramble that will make getting to the summit that much more of an accomplishment.

16. Falling Springs Falls

This hike is in Alleghany County, VA. Falling Springs Falls is a gem I more recently discovered. Tucked away in Alleghany County is massive waterfall truly could be your next big summer adventure. I have heard it is best to try to beat the crowds and the heat by getting an early start to this hike.

17. Hawksbill Mountain

This hike is in Shenandoah National Park. This is one of the best views in all of the Shenandoah National Park. If you are anywhere close to this hike, make sure it gets on your lists of hikes to do.

Before you load up your car and hit the trails, remember to grab yourself lots of water, pack some snacks and let someone know where you are headed!

Even on a cold day water is so important to keep your body moving! Snacks are the perfect to stop take a break on the summit and eat! By letting someone know where you are headed, you have a failsafe if something goes wrong and you can't get help.

Get outside and enjoy these beautiful hikes as your next study break.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
