Vinyls Or Download?

What is the best way to listen?

Vinyls Or Download?

The word gramophone record, or vinyl, is not a word, or words that are used very often by people my age. It is a style of listening to music that was very famous in the "olden days" that is now coming back to life. Vinyls have existed for a long time (since 1951 to be exact). It is a very long process to make them, but the quality can never be replaced. Nowadays with technology, people are age aren't quite familiar with vinyls, they are more familiar with Spotify or Apple Music; pretty much any source of downloading music from the Internet. Personally, I am a fanatic of classical music and I feel that with headphones you don't get the same rush and excitement as you do with vinyls or even live music. With dowloaded or bought music, you can listen to it over and over again. Well, with vinyls you can do the same thing, but it may be more fun to take a record out of its cover and put it on the player and adjust the needle just right. Maybe if there are more reasons for people to buy vinyls and listen to them, they would. When you buy a vinyl, you invest in something you can later sell. Listened to that Queen record one too many times? Not to worry, you can sell it. That's not something that can happen with downloaded music. As time goes by, and depending on the popularity of the band, the record can be worth more. With 90s kids purchasing and collecting vinyls, this way of listening to music may never die. Downloading music may be cool, but if the phone or iPod you purchased the music on gets lost and you don't have backup, you lose it forever. With vinyls, they are impossible to lose. Have you seen how big they can be? With downloaded music, you can definitely skip if you want. With vinyls, that's definitely harder. If you take the time to skip a song, you are my hero. When I started buying vinyls, I challenged myself to listen to the whole album and I definitely didn't regret it. With vinyls, there is no shuffle, which actually forces you to listen if you're hands are busy and can't get to the turntable in time. Listening to vinyls is definitely more expensive but, you keep them for as long as you want, or even pass them down to your kids. The quality is definitely better because of the analog, and it makes you appreciate music more than you already do. Downloaded music is mixed and auto-tuned, it just doesn't sound as good. With vinyls I feel like when I listen, I'm there where the music was recorded. So I challenge you, to test out vinyls and see if they are as good as the Bieber music on your phone.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
