Since the death of Vine, there have been copious compilation videos. At first, they were just compilations of funny Vines that were made available so their comedy didn't disappear with the app. It was done as a necessity in a way.
But then the compilations turned into their own memes. Now there are Vine compilations these ridiculous titles, and they're all incredibly specific.
We have Vines for 3 A.M., Vines for breakfast, Vines for when you disassociate; the titles are incredible. They serve an immediate hook because, honestly, I want to know what Vines I relate to during breakfast.
The best part about it is that nine times out of ten, I agree with the compilation. Every single Vine in there is what I feel like when I disassociate or butter my croissant. Like the specificity is incredible. It attracts viewers and it pays off.
Then you have these gossip accounts on YouTube, where they'll focus on the drama in the beauty guru community, for example. Every one of their videos is either explaining a long, complicated string of drama or making short edits of creators gossiping about other creators.
They're funny and informative, and the editing is usually intense and complicated. These creators, although they aren't quite YouTube celebrities, they are serving a purpose that viewers are eating up. Some of them do more work than these YouTube celebrities.
It doesn't stop here, though. Your parody videos.
Shane Dawson's "The Mind of Jake Paul" series generated a lot of discourse, and one of those forms of discourse was the parody videos. Some accounts make parodies taken directly from the series, while some take it a step further. Parody account JNJ Memes is currently working "The Mind of Kermit". JNJ Memes is taking a parody of one thing and altering to further parody something else.
It's such an overlay of references that I think people that consume this content forget how much work goes into it, especially when these accounts play with editing. They'll change or alter the audio, volume, and design.
So, whether you watch overly specific Vine compilations, gossip videos, or parody edits, as consumers we forget the amount of work that goes into these. While you smile and laugh at these videos and appreciate the mindless and easy content, don't forget to appreciate the work these creators poured into those videos.
