Villanova Wins Big

In this 2016 season, Villanova University won the NCAA basketball championship playing against North Carolina-Asheville 86-85, so close; defeating Iowa in the second round 87-68; defeating Miami in regional semifinal 92-69; defeating Kansas in regional final 64-59; defeating Oklahoma in National semifinal 95-51; and the big one, defeating North Carolina in National Championship 77-74! It was a very big moment in the University's history; the last time they made the National Championship was defeating Georgetown 66-64 in the year of 1985.

Villanova University is nicknamed 'The Wildcats' and a member of the Big East Conference and the Philadelphia Big Five. The wildcats have appeared in the NCAA tournament 37 times, the 8th highest total in NCAA history. Villanova will enter the 2016-2017 season with an all time winning percentage of .648.

The coach for the basketball team since 2001 is Jay Wright. Jay's first job was an assistant coach at Division III University at Rochester. In 1986, he got his first position in Division I college basketball as a assistant coach at Drexel University. His next job was a assistant at Villanova.

On that day of the game of Villanova vs. Oklahoma, there was a ton of people watching. Half of the people watching were probably Villanova Alumni, like my father, who went to Villanova and majored in Business. A lot of people should be proud that they did go or do go to Villanova University. If Villanova lost their game playing against North Carolina, it would be sad but they did good.

I usually do not keep up with basketball, but I watched it in a restaurant and I finally understood it so I was thrilled also. I think it's good when you're passionate about something like your college, your friends, etc. When Villanova won, everyone went crazy. 1985 is a long way when they won last, and it was a proud moment for the college. The win was everywhere on the news. A lot of colleges sometimes just aren't this good or don't win this big for a National Championship.

The best known players for Villanova would be in 1995, Kerry Kittles, in 2006, Randy Foye, and in 2015, Ryan Arcidiacono. Arcidiacono became the first wildcat freshmen to score 25 points since Scottie Reynolds. He was named Big East rookie of the week after a 17-point performance against NJIT. He was named one of the ten finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. Villanova's first season was in 1920. I think Villanova did a good job playing the Final Four. All the players did a good job. Go Wildcats!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
