Villains We Can't Help But Love

Everybody's got a dark side.

Oh what a time to be a nerd! Comic book adaptations are all the rage right now. People are beginning to realize why we sympathize with some of the so called terrible people that we do. Loki explains our feelings precisely, "Every villain is a hero in his own mind."

Loki

"I never wanted the throne, I only ever wanted to be your equal." Loki is just a misunderstood boy with daddy issues. Who wouldn't be upset if they were the odd demigod out. What's so great about Thor? Hm? Loki is just as cute as Thor! Loki is just as smart as Thor(Gretchen Weiner voice implied). How can you blame him for fighting for the attention he deserves.

Two Face

"Justice has two sides like this coin." Harvey Dent was a wronged man who was all about justice before tragedy struck. How could you not want justice when a mob boss ruins your handsome face forever. He overcame an abusive father and horrible childhood to become DA of Gotham. The man deserved happiness.

Wilson Fisk

"I would do anything to make it a better place." Kingpin just wants to make Hell's Kitchen into an empire. He was taught at a young age that the most important thing is to become successful. He raised himself up from a father murdering child into a crime overload that looks over Hell's Kitchen in his own way.

Mr. Freeze

"Have you ever seen a flower die?" This man lost the life he had trying to save the one thing he loved most in life, his dying wife. The weapon he uses was actually meant to put Nora into a cryogenic state but after being tampered with by Freeze's boss, it explodes and kills Nora while putting Freeze in the suit for life. He vows to exact revenge on those responsible for ruining his life's work.

Ozymandias

"It doesn't take a genius to see that the world has problems." Ozymandias started out his life as a rich child and when his parents died, he put all of his money into charity and started from scratch. He became a genius crime fighter but gave it up for business. He then decided he himself could bring the world back together with a fake alien attack that would kill millions and lead countries to believe they must stick together. The man had a great reason for his actions but delivered them poorly.

We can all admit that we want to see some villain win at least one time and why not one of these guys? Heroes and anti-heroes get their ways all the time. Its Evil's turn for the winning spotlight. I would love to clap at the end of a movie because a deserving villain got his justice. "Why should I apologize for the monster I've become? No one ever apologized for making me this way."

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
