It's Time To Let Young Conservatives Have A Voice

Yeah, we have feelings too.

Lately I've noticed this trend. It's most prevalent on twitter, but I also see it at times on Facebook. It's starting to anger me. It's time to put on some gloves and get my hands dirty, to explain why I am a young conservative and why I've taken a break from opinion tweets.

Liberals have been very prevalent on social media these days. It's like they almost have to remind you everyday that they are a liberal and they hate Trump. But, oh my, a conservative so much as tweets a positive thing about Trump, we have to brace ourselves for impact. You get comments such as "how do you support Hitler" and "you must hate human life" or "you don't support basic human rights to all." No, actually, that's not the case and quite frankly liberals are also the "bully," and in times of disagreement you become violent and confrontational.

You are all about everybody having freedom of expression whether you are gay, straight, black, white, male, female and so on. But, the second a conservative expresses their opinion, it's like those rights don't apply to us as well. You attack and tell us we're wrong and terrible people. It's not like you see a conservative attacking you every day when you post ten tweets about how much you hate us.

So, now let me explain why I'm a young conservative. I feel that much of this not only applies to me, but also many other young conservatives.

Let's start out with the big one. Abortion. I personally feel that you shouldn't have the right to end somebody else life who has absolutely no say. After a heart is beating, that is a life. That is a living, human being and to be able to just take that life is not right. You're taking that child's rights away and for what? Because you don't want it. Fine, give it up for adoption to a family who can't have children, but it's their greatest dream to have them or just to a home who can love and care for them. I am, however, for the three exceptions of rape, incest, or health and well-being of the mother and/or child, but only along strict guidelines.

The right to bear arms has been and always will be the second amendment. I strongly stand for Americans to be able to have firearms in their possession not only for recreational use (i.e. Hunting, skeet shooting, gun range), but also for protection. If an armed criminal comes into your house, you should have the right to not only protect yourself, but also your family.

The average response time for emergency assistance is ten minutes.

A bullet travels at 2,500 feet per second. I think the bullet wins this race.

Another hot topic is gay marriage. Now the Bible doesn't directly state that man is supposed to be with a woman, but it does imply that with the story of Adam and Eve. Being a devout Christian I do agree that a man should be with a woman. But, at the end of the day, true love is hard to come by so you love who you love. If you're lucky enough to find that love, it shouldn't matter who it's with. I guess you could say this is my one "liberal" view that many conservatives don't agree on.

And, oh boy, racism. I know this may be hard to believe but most conservatives are not racist. We accept people for who they are and not by the color of their skin. Many of us actually have friends who aren't white. You can't judge a whole group of people based on a small population within them. And to go along with that is police brutality. There are some cases where the police were in the wrong and other cases where you can't ignore the fact that the officer did make the right call. I believe in all lives matter. Everybody should have the right to life and the right to a peaceful death.

It seems like the whole tax and money thing has taken a backseat these days with the uprising of police brutality and gay marriage, but it's still a hot topic. Many people believe that we only care about ourselves. In one way, yes that is true, but in other ways, no it's not true. Today there are so many options that are given to go to college that people can't say "I can't afford college" anymore. Let's be real, not many people can.

Everybody has an equal opportunity to make something of themselves. If you work hard, you can make a living. If you're working hard but still struggling, by all means, we're open to help.

But...

It's the people who don't do anything.

It's the people who use welfare to buy drugs and alcohol.

It's the people who just have children to get more money from the taxpayers.

It's "homeless" people who stand on the street corner begging for money and two hours later are walking back to their brand new car.

It's those people who make it hard for conservatives to want to pay more taxes and give more.

But at the same time, some of you have to remember that many charities are funded by conservative "old" money. I go to school, I go to sports, I get good grades, and I study my butt off. I don't want the payoff of years and years of hard work to be going to somebody who uses my money for drugs. I'm not working hard to support a drug habit or alcohol abuse.

Take it as you want. Tell me I'm a terrible person because I'm a conservative. It won't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last. We'll never agree and that's fine. In a way, it's what makes this country motivated and passionate. I will always respect the opinions of a liberal as long as they accept mine. I'm also not saying that all liberals are like this. Like I said before, you can't judge a whole group off a minority population of them. So, young conservatives, hopefully I was a small voice for us for just a short while.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
