To (help) cure my post-Spring Break trip depression, here is a list of things must do in Toronto!! Disclaimer: a majority of the things on this list involve food.
5. Sugar Marmalade
Two words to describe this place? Cheap AND delicious. It's a bit hidden as it's located inside a mall and the shop itself is pretty tight, but the food and desserts it offers are absolutely amazing.
I got more of a dessert shop vibe from this place but it also serves main course foods too! You don't find desserts this cheap right in the city, but somehow this gem still exists. I suggest getting the strawberry waffle with ice cream or the strawberry bingsoo.
4. University of Toronto
Yes, it's a little weird and not really a tourist attraction, but you should go anyways. As a college student, I am very interested in other colleges and their campuses, and UT's campus is absolutely stunning.
All of their buildings are dated and look straight out from Hogwarts but located right in the middle of the city. I don't think I've ever been so jealous of a campus. It has two of my favorite things in one: the city and beautiful historical buildings. Those dang kids get the best of both worlds.
Also, in the picture, the front buildings are school buildings and the city is behind.
3. 168 Sushi
Unlimited sushi. Have you heard of anything more beautiful? No sir, not me! There has got to be a catch, that's probably what you're thinking. That's what I thought until after the meal thinking maybe I could get food poisoning.
Nope.
The only thing I got was a food coma from eating too much. It's a high tech restaurant where you order everything you want on an iPad and it sends your order to the kitchen and everything just comes out.
You can order whenever, as much as you want, as little as you want and as many times as you want. They offer everything starting from ramen, udon, sushi, sashimi, rolls and kalbi. Yes, kalbi. It's good too! There is literally no con to this restaurant and is a must visit place!
2. Art Museum Of Ontario (Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors Exhibit)
The museum itself is full of beautiful art pieces. In my defense, I am a sucker for art museums so I like almost all museums I've ever been to but this one is truly special! I mainly wanted to go here for the Yayoi Kusama exhibit which just opened March 3 and is open until May 27, but tickets are extremely hard to grasp.
The tickets are sold online only and can only be bought on certain dates with specific time slots. Like fate, the booking window date was one of the days we were in Toronto, so I thought it was fate and tried to grab tickets. Boy, was I wrong, and it was not fate as I could not get tickets. So yes, I didn't actually get to visit this museum. but I still suggest it because I know for a fact it's a beautiful exhibit and I will do anything to try and go again.
1. Kinka's Izakaya Original
Oh my. I am incapable and don't have the level of capacity needed to write about how amazing this restaurant is.
To start things off, this place is actually a Japanese bar and the things on the menu are technically snacks and appetizers made to pair with the drinks. So if you want to leave feeling full, this place might not be for you. It's a decent sized place, with very dim lights and it's very loud and eccentric.
If you come to this place, the one thing you MUST do is get a round of sake bombs. I won't say anything but that it is quite an experience. Reservations are recommended as space is limited, but are very easy to make. In conclusion, I give it five out of five stars.
