I'm late to the video game rodeo. I didn't start playing until some time last year. But I do know that waiting so long means that you get to pick the cream of the crop because you didn't have to go through weeding through the bad ones. Here are few games to get you started. Most of these are console games, which means that you're going to need to either own the console, or ask a friend really nicely if you can play the game at their place. Some of them you can get for your laptop through a service, which is called Steam or the Origin store.

If you're looking for a good game to start with, then Journey would work for you. It's available for PlayStation and you're looking at about an hour of game play straight through. You are a traveler, though there really isn't a name for your character. There is no language either. Instead, there are these very soothing chirps and slight whistles. The soundtrack is pretty awesome too. The object of the game is to get to the top of this glorious mountain. You meet a couple of friends, and learn how to fly. It's great for something quick and easy, something to unwind after playing a more terrifying game. It can be single player or multiplayer, depending on what mood you're in

This is the beginning of a series and it's pretty good. Hidden trophies are everywhere and you battle a lot of the main villains throughout the game. You play Batman, of course, taking Joker back into the Asylum on Arkham Island. But of course, Joker has different plans. He releases all of the prisoners to take back the island and get to Gotham City proper. Your job is to stop him before it happens. The graphics are good, it's an interesting game but some parts get a little repetitive and you figure out how to beat them pretty fast after the first go around. It's still worth the about 15 hours of game play though.

If you have ever wondered what would happen if fairy tales lived in New York City, wonder no more. Of course, it's not all sunshine and roses as the characters are portrayed as struggling just like normal humans. Beauty and Beast are struggling, there are animal characters that need glamors to live. You play as Bigby Wolf, which is exactly who you think it is. The odd thing is, The Big Bad Wolf is the sheriff of Fabletown, and there's been a murder. It's an episodic adventure, but there is only five episodes out right now. Sadly, the date for the next episode keeps getting pushed back in favor for other popular games.

This is also a series! As a survivor of a plane crash, you find yourself in a mystical undersea city with a 1950s or1960s vibe. There are people called Splicers, who have taken this genetic mutating liquid called Adam which allows them to use powers like Electrify and Bees. Yes, bees. However, the splicers have taken too much Adam and it's driven them crazy with power. Rapture, the city, has been in ruin because of the hunger Adam creates. Little Sisters and Big Daddies are also creatures in this tube filled step into the past. It's about survival and learning who to trust in the ocean.

This game is the game for you if you like zombies - but, it's not a classic zombie tale, it has a twist. You are Joel, a man with a past. You, along with your partner Tess, are responsible for a girl named Ellie. Weaving through clickers, runners, and bloaters, it's a hard game even on easy. Not only that, but the characters endear themselves to you through their flaws and actions. It's a challenge, one that you will feel good saying you beat it.
