Movies and video games are two large entertainment groups that continue to grow yearly. Movies release monthly with good and bad ones as well as video games. So why, when put together, do these two entertainment giants normally fail. Movies made off of video games usually don't ever do well. This goes the same direction when video games are based off of movies.

The most recent video game movie was "Assassins Creed" that released back in December. The ratings among critics were poor, but among fans were great. This movie replaced the typical game that would release by Ubisoft in November. The producer has decided to delay the next game so they can take a step back and look over the franchise. One reason video game movies typically fail is because fans of both entertainment groups are different. Gamers have different standards when watching a movie then a movie goer does if the movie is based off a video game. The gamer will look to see how the movie was adapted compared to the original game it is based off of while the movie goer will watch the movie for its story and have little or no knowledge on its background.

These two different watchers will have different feelings about the movie. This causes the movie to have mixed reviews among critics and people. Another reason a movie based off a video game will normally fail is due to the adaptation. Video games are much more than the story. Its also about the concept and gameplay mechanics. A movie can't implement these gameplay mechanics the way a game can. They can add a stunt into the movie that represents that specific mechanic, but doesn't always catch the watchers eye the way it will a players.

Even though movies based on video games normally don't do well, Why are they continued to be made? I think a big reason for this is because gamer's like to see a story evolve more in a different from of entertainment. For a person who likes both movies and video games, these two things colliding together may seem amazing. The evolution of a video games story in the form of a movie would be spectacular. I personally would love to see Isaac Clarke's story be developed into a movie or see a titan drop from the sky on the big screen. As a gamer, I would pay to see that anytime, because seeing a game come to life in a movie would be awesome.

Hopefully in the future we will continue to see more video game movies. We know a short list of games that are getting their own films such as Gears of War, The Last of Us and Uncharted. This movies are very early in production and may not be seen on the big screen for another few years. Until then, video games and movies will do well on their own.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
