Picture this scenario: The ship you were cruising on just crashed and you're left stranded with no one else to suffer with. However, you were able to snag only five games to play until you are saved or face the inevitable. The question is, what games do you pick? This is just for fun, however. Obviously, you aren't going to be worried about what games or consoles or even availability of what you want to play when you're stranded on an island by yourself and have to do this weird little thing called surviving. With that disclaimer out of the way, here are my five games to play while I wait for help on a stranded island.
1. Super Mario Odyssey

It's not often that a game like Super Mario Odyssey gets released, and it's even more unlikely that the game will be a hit. A true successor to the 3D Mario genre in every sense. There is so much to do in this game, with over 900 moons to collect, hundreds of purple coins to deck you ship out, and even a multitude of costumes to collect. Even without the content, the gameplay is an absolute pearl. Everything is so refined gameplay-wise and this makes it so addicting to maneuver and constantly learn new movements and ways to play. This game will definitely have me coming back every couple of months for a fresh experience, a must-have in my choices.
2. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

I promise this list won't just be Mario games just hear me out. When I first got my GameCube when I was around 12 or so one of the first games I had was Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and I couldn't be more content with my first game for the system. A Mario RPG with the aesthetic of paper and an audience to watch you fight? Sign me up! Everything about this game is just so perfect, the combat, the exploration, the story, I really can't get enough of this game. It really shows how rare a game like this is considering Nintendo has tried to strike lightning in a bottle twice by releasing more Paper Mario titles, but none have had the heart the TTYD had.
3. The Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth (Afterbirth+ DLC included)

If you asked me to sum up the story of The Binding Of Isaac in one word, I would have to say weird. Everything about this game makes no sense, from your mom trying to kill you, to you somehow getting to either heaven or hell when beating the game. Story aside this game has infinite replay value. Every single time you start a run in this game you start from scratch, and the items you receive in each run will vary, providing a nearly infinite amount of different experiences. Top that with the fact that this game is absolutely loaded with content and I could easily pour hundreds of hours into this game. Hell, I've already poured more than 200 hours in the game and I'm not even on an island!
4. Grand Theft Auto 5

It's impossible to mention open world games nowadays without mentioning GTA 5. This game is practically the embodiment of what an open world should be. It's not too big as to where you always feel lost, but not small enough to where you feel like you're running in circles constantly. Add that with a great story and countless side missions and it's easy to see why this is one of the best selling games of all time. On top of everything I've said this game is still being updated nearly 7 years after its release, with every update adding more than the last. So provided there's a router in the sand somewhere on this island, you'll catch me playing online with the boys.
5. Minecraft

C'mon you really thought I would make this whole list about video games and not mention Minecraft? I feel like I don't need to explain the reasoning to put Minecraft on this list, its freaking Minecraft! An open world sandbox with nearly infinite possibilities of what to build and countless things to do is exactly the type of thing I would want to pour my time into while I'm stranded. Even now I always find myself coming back to Minecraft every couple of months just to relive the experience all over again. I've been playing Minecraft ever since I've been on a computer, and the fact that it's been over a decade since I started playing is more than enough to bring it with me to a stranded island.
Well, there are my picks! Hopefully, the heatstroke or the countless amounts of primal animals don't get to me first before I can fully enjoy any of these games. This is really just a question to think about what games mean the most to you for longevity, so everyone is going to have a different set of games they prefer. What would you have picked? What about your friends? Maybe you don't have friends, ask your mom! I'm sure she'd love to play Candy Crush and Fortnite mobile while stranded.
