"Ciara look at this" as I grab my friends phone I wonder what she's talking about. I click the video and see a group of models proudly singing "Bodak Yellow" by rapper Cardi B. Now if you've never heard Bodak Yellow you would know that song has multiple curse words and says the N word on a regular.
The models did not bleep out any words, which made social media take off. I noticed not every girl said the N word because it did get slightly quieter when that part came around. There wasn't an ounce of melanin in that room, all the girls were even White or tan. I actually work at Victoria Secret so it kind of hit home.
To me it's just crazy how singing that song was okay and it shows what people do behind closed doors, because if they didn't record that video and post ti, the girls would've still sang the song.
Another thing in social media that caught peoples attention was the recent music video "I'm not racist by Joyner Lucas. The video started off with a white man rapping in anger at a black man, wear a "Make America great again hat" and screaming "nigga" and "nigger" on several occasions. The first thing I thought to my head, was "wow this seems pretty racist." But I noticed that the mans voice was very deep, and kind of resembled a black man.
So I went to YouTube and watched the whole video. the video is about seven minutes long, but in the middle of the video the white man says "I wish I knew your story." Then the black man goes to say his part, and his anger towards white people. But at the end of the video, the men realize they have common factors and embrace in a warm hug.
This shows that social media, can sometimes control how we think. They only show short clips of incidents without an explanation, but it could all be a misunderstanding if you look into it an do your research.
