There has been controversy everywhere about the NFL players (and one MLB player) taking a knee in protest of racial and social injustice. I'm sure if you have access to any media--print or Internet--you've probably heard something about the protest. Many people are against the protest, and many people are for the protest.
There is an argument that kneeling during the National Anthem of the United States of America is disrespectful to the flag and to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. I wanted to see what veterans and active military members ACTUALLY have to say about taking a knee.
Two opposing viewpoints:
This thread about Flag Codes from a 3rd Generation Vet:
In my search, I expected to find a lot of upset veterans, because veterans have been the focal point behind reason not to take a knee. Instead, I found many veterans who agreed with the protest to take a knee, and it took awhile to find veterans who were upset.
While there were many, I was overwhelmed by a number of positive tweets, messages, and posts about veterans' support of the #TakeAKnee movement. It's important to note that the views of some obviously do not represent the groups as a whole.
There were thousands of tweets in support and hundreds in disagreement. Take to Twitter if you want to expand on this search, but the results will be similar to these. Whether or not you disagree with the protests, it is important not to speak for those who can speak for themselves.
