Verses To Flip To When...

You most likely need to be reminded of the things these verses tell us about life with Jesus.

When you're feeling overwhelmed — with stress, fear, anxiety or with joy, happiness, or love:

"When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to The Rock that is higher than I" via Psalm 61:2.

When you need reminder of how much you need Christ to fix your heart and restore your spirit:

" God, create a clean heart in me and renew a steadfast spirit within me" via Psalm 51:10. (Side note: the entire passage of Psalm 51 is something you need to read.)

When you need to realize that all of your goals, achievements, awards, results, influence, grades, love, and mercy are a result from God:

"I no longer live but Christ lives in me" via Galatians 2:20.

When you forget how precious you are in the eyes of Christ:

"You know all about it, Lord. You have encircled me; You have placed Your hand on me. This extraordinary knowledge is beyond me. . . For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made" via Psalm 139: 5-6, 14. (Another side note, this whole passage is so full of truth that so many people need to hear.)

When you think Christ does not understand your emotions:

"Jesus wept" via John 11:35. (The shortest English verse in the Bible shows us just how much Jesus really does understand.)

When Satan is trying to fill your days, your nights, and your thoughts with fear:

"Greater is He that is in me than he who is in the world" via 1 John 4:4.

When being obedient does not come so easy:

"He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death- even death on a cross" via Philippians 2:8. (Also, remember that this death is one that He did nothing to deserve. He took it upon Himself to take our place: our place on that cross was taken over by His body and His blood so we could live a free life abiding in Christ. Also, I apologize for all of the side notes.)

When you need to simply rest in Christ's love:

"No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rules, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" via Romans 8:37b-39.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
