Vermont Rocks!

Last weekend, I spontaneously took a trip to Vermont with a good friend. I have not been to Vermont in such a long time. When I went to Vermont for the first time in a long time, I fell in love with the state and absolutely adored it! Here are some following reasons as to why I love the Green Mountain State:

  1. The People

If you have ever been to Vermont, there is something about the people there that just don’t compare to people anywhere else in the United States-- that is, they are very friendly! If you are lost, people in Vermont will drop everything just to help you. Not only that, but many Vermont people are never on their phones. They actually want to have a conversation with you and get to know you!

2. The Mountains

The majority of Vermont is covered in vast, green mountains. It seems as though with every turn on the highway, main roads, and backroads, there are always new mountains to look at and that come into view. I believe they are some of the largest mountains in the whole country! Another thing that I have noticed is that the more north you go, the larger the mountains get-- and that all stops once you go to Canada (the land becomes flat and barren).

3. The Food

Where I am from, the food does not compare to the food in Vermont-- the food there is fresh, nutritious, and wholesome. You can order anything in Vermont (that is not from a franchise, of course) and not feel sick after eating what you ordered. That’s when you know the food there is healthy. In Vermont, it is almost near impossible to eat unhealthy. It is rare to see any franchise there. I believe I saw only one Dunkin Donuts and two Subways while traveling from the south of Vermont to the north. Other than that, there was only fresh cafes and cute little restaurants to choose from.

4. The Parks

Vermont is filled with several different parks to choose from-- whether they be national parks or local parks, you are bound to have a great time. There are a lot of sights to take in: Mountains, rushing rivers, rocks, hiking trails, lakes, ponds, picnic areas, etc; you are bound to have a fun-filled, adventurous time! Most parks are free to the public; it is usually the national parks that you have to pay for in order to get in. Regardless, spending any time in nature and surrounded by beautiful scenery and the people you love will bound to put you into a great mood.

5. The Sights

In Vermont, there are a lot of sights to take in. One thing that you will definitely notice is that there are no billboards while you are driving. There are, however, a lot of solar panels in grass and mountains and white, electric windmills on top of mountains. The more north you go in the state, the more the number of solar panels and electric windmills will increase. The sights in VT are awesome. There are a lot of churches, cafes, restaurants, shops, and old town shopping areas. No matter what town you find yourself in, you are bound to be in some little old town, surrounded by a number of things to do. It’s a very laid-back atmosphere and the people there are so friendly.

6. The Freedom

There’s something about taking your car, top down and windows down, and cruising. It’s freedom-filling and fun! You can bring your car anywhere in Vermont and never get bored or upset. And if you are feeling down, the mountains are around every corner to cheer you up and bring joy to the innermost of your soul. So go ahead: Grab your car, a friend, gas money, and go! Trust me, you will not regret it.

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
