13 Things Vegans Are Sick And Tired Of Hearing, No Bones About It

In This Article:

There is a large spectrum of vegans. There are vegans that simply don't eat animal products, and others who won't wear/use/support anything having to do with them. Some are temporary, and some will follow the identity into the afterlife. Regardless of the technicalities, it IS a personal choice, and our peers like to make it their business most of the time. And let's be clear... it's not. So, let's go over the handful of things that no vegan particularly enjoys hearing.

"Why?"

Giphy

Some of us do it for the animals, some do it for the health benefits, and some do it for an endless array of other reasons. I hate that an explanation of the decision is expected from most people. It's not uncommon, and most people could probably guess your answer, but I have a very well rehearsed spiel to recite when I am asked this.

"So like... what do you eat?"

Giphy

Let's check the definition of veganism. It is a plant-based diet, so we consume nothing produced by animals. We eat what the Earth itself creates. So to answer your question, we eat everything, except for animal products. And no, we can't eat cheese.

"C'mon, just one bite"

Giphy

I'm set, but thanks!

"Don't you miss it?"

Giphy

Maybe I used to, but if I missed it THAT bad, I wouldn't have made the decision in the first place.

"I'm so sorry"

Giphy

I get it, people make mistakes. But I promise, I don't get offended when you accidentally offer me a bite of your ice cream. It really isn't the end of the world.

"What about protein?"

Giphy

Meat isn't the only source of protein, dude. It's just about educating yourself.

"You're crazy"

Giphy

WHO do you think you ARE???

"We get it, you're vegan"

Giphy

I'll stop talking about hummus when you stop talking about wings.

"I have a friend that's vegan"

Giphy

Oh that's cool! We probably know each other from the worldwide vegan Facebook group!

"So you like salad"

Giphy

I also like when you shut your mouth.

"That's so hip"

Giphy

You're right, I do it because it looks cool.

"Awwww"

Giphy

Don't pity me. You act like it's a disease.

"But aren't plants alive?"

Giphy

God, I wish I wasn't.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
