There is a large spectrum of vegans. There are vegans that simply don't eat animal products, and others who won't wear/use/support anything having to do with them. Some are temporary, and some will follow the identity into the afterlife. Regardless of the technicalities, it IS a personal choice, and our peers like to make it their business most of the time. And let's be clear... it's not. So, let's go over the handful of things that no vegan particularly enjoys hearing.
"Why?"
GiphySome of us do it for the animals, some do it for the health benefits, and some do it for an endless array of other reasons. I hate that an explanation of the decision is expected from most people. It's not uncommon, and most people could probably guess your answer, but I have a very well rehearsed spiel to recite when I am asked this.
"So like... what do you eat?"
GiphyLet's check the definition of veganism. It is a plant-based diet, so we consume nothing produced by animals. We eat what the Earth itself creates. So to answer your question, we eat everything, except for animal products. And no, we can't eat cheese.
"Don't you miss it?"
GiphyMaybe I used to, but if I missed it THAT bad, I wouldn't have made the decision in the first place.
"I'm so sorry"
GiphyI get it, people make mistakes. But I promise, I don't get offended when you accidentally offer me a bite of your ice cream. It really isn't the end of the world.
"What about protein?"
GiphyMeat isn't the only source of protein, dude. It's just about educating yourself.
"I have a friend that's vegan"
GiphyOh that's cool! We probably know each other from the worldwide vegan Facebook group!
