Being a vegan does not stop you from going on vacation by any means, and it can be difficult to find a decent meal when you are traveling. Walt Disney World is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the entire world. Families frequent the destination known as the "happiest place on Earth" for food, fun, and entertainment. Thankfully for the vegan population, they are extremely accommodating to dietary restriction almost anywhere on the property. Here is a handful of the some of the options.

1. The Vegan Bowl at "The Ale and Compass."

"The Ale and Compass" is a hidden jewel among the Yacht & Beach Resorts. I happened upon it by chance with my sister once when we were off on an adventure. They serve an astounding dish, their vegan bowl, that tastes wonderful and provides plenty of food. It contains quinoa, sweet potato, broccolini, and tasty meatless sausage. They also have an appetizer that is worth trying; buffalo cauliflower bites.

2. The Plantain Burger at "Typhoon Lagoon."

Even if when you are at the waterpark, you can find a meal. Vegans can enjoy the water slides just like the others and then have lunch in "Typhoon Lagoon". They provide a plantain burger as well as a plantain wrap with avocado. I haven't tried the wrap, but I've had the burger more than once, and I really enjoyed the flavor.

3. The Spaghetti at "50's Prime Time Cafe."

"50's Prime Time Cafe" is a popular spot in Disney's Hollywood Studios. It is well known for its theming. The waiters harass you and shout throughout your dining experience. Vegans can join in the beratement and fun with the spaghetti and meatless meatballs. It has mushrooms in the sauce, and it can be a little undersalted, but overall, it is a satisfying meal. Afterward, you can treat yourself with a rice milk milkshake in either vanilla or chocolate. I've had the vanilla, and my sister tried the chocolate. As long as you like rice milk, they are very tasty!

4. The Vegetable Ratatouille at "Be Our Guest."

"Be Our Guest" is a highly frequented restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. It is themed after the animated film "Beauty and the Beast", and the interior is designed to look like the inside of the Beast's castle. It's beautiful, particularly the ballroom. They serve a vegan-friendly vegetable ratatouille that pairs excellently with wine. This a great meal for the vegan feeling a little bit on the fancier side.

5. Vegan Pizza at "Blaze."

"Blaze" is located in Disney Springs and a perfect option if you're looking for something quick and relatively inexpensive. It is a build-your-own/assembly line style. All the crust options are vegan friendly, and you can request vegan "Daiya" cheese on top. I always load mine with vegetables. My sister and I love "Blaze". We are rewards members, and we go there practically once a week to satisfy our pizza cravings.

6. Everything at "Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC."

This place is spectacular! It is also located in Disney Springs. My sister and I often stroll over here after we feast at "Blaze". It is a completely dairy-free bakery that sells donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and even bagels. My favorites are their chocolate cupcakes with sun butter frosting, and their double chocolate cookies with mint filling.

It is also worth noting that "Sprinkles" in Disney Springs also has a vegan cupcake. However, they limit you to only their red velvet cupcake. Whereas, Erin's has a much larger selection.

7. Breakfast at "The Grand Floridian Cafe."

"The Grand Floridian" is one of the more revered Disney Resorts because of its location on the monorail line and its famous wedding pavilion. The theming is gorgeous and equipped with a spa and a live band. I often go to the "Grand Floridian Cafe" with my friends for occasions like Dapper Day when we're dressed up and want to feel elegant. They make their waffles and their pancakes vegan upon request, and they have vegan butter alternative and soy milk for coffee. I have also been told that they have a vegan breakfast scramble. That dish I have not actually tried for myself.

8. The Meatless Meatloaf at "Garden Grill."

"Garden Grill" is located in the Future World section of Epcot. It has cute theming, and it's a good character dining opportunity if you're being accompanied by children. They serve a dish of meatless meatloaf over veggies and rice. They also serve dairy-free cookies for a dessert option. This is a good option if you're traveling with the kiddies and need to find something to pacify a child's taste but also have a decent vegan meal.

9. Falafel at "Jungle Skipper Canteen."

"The Jungle Skipper Canteen" is a restaurant in the Magic Kingdom in Adventureland. It is filled to the brim with puns and bad jokes, and the theming is based on the ride "The Jungle Cruise". The vegan diner can experience the laughs along with everyone else while indulging in dishes like the falafel, as well as the curry, vegetable stew. I have also been told that they serve a vegan version of their Thai noodles upon request. This is a good option for those with a more adventurous palate.

10. "The Impossible Burger" at "The Edison."

"The Edison" is still a somewhat new location in Disney Springs. It is themed after the 1920's with a touch of steampunk. It is a popular nightlife spot. Many go to enjoy the drinks and entertainment in the late evening. However, the food is definitely worth having if you find yourself there around dinnertime. The "Impossible Burger" is a delectable meatless burger, topped with lettuce, tomato, and housemade pickles, and accompanied by fries.

If you're craving a burger and looking for a quicker, cheaper option, "D-Luxe Burger" is also worth noting. They serve a vegan "Beyond Burger" in a lettuce wrap. My sister and I are infatuated with "Beyond" and always enjoy it as a hearty satisfying choice.

I can say from firsthand experience that most of these options are quite good. Some of them, like "Blaze" and "Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC" have actually become regularly visited establishments for both my sister and me. If you or your family are planning a vacation to Walt Disney World anytime soon, know that your veganism will be tended to in almost every park and resort.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
