The journey towards veganism is not so easy, as you constantly have to be conscious of what you put inside your body. Simple and everyday food like bread can also be a no for you. There are so many varieties of bread with different ingredients. We are going to talk about most types of bread.

Can all bread be vegan?

The simplest recipe of bread is salt, flour, water, and yeast. So a simple bread can be vegan. But the bakers add additional ingredients to make the bread softer and tastier. That ingredient may not be vegan. Like sweeteners in the bread, honey, or any kind of fat makes the bread non-vegan. To modify the texture of the bread eggs, butter and milk are added. None of these are vegan. So before buying any bread it's a must that you check the ingredient list. It will save you from eating things you do not agree with.

What is the easiest way to know if the bread is vegan?

Read the ingredients. This is the only way to know if something is vegan or not. But for that, you have to have a clear idea about vegan and non-vegan ingredients. Here are some ingredients that are universally known as non-vegan. Those are milk, butter, honey, royal jelly, gelatin, buttermilk, and whey. These are the direct animal-derived product.

But there are some other ingredients that we sometimes cannot pronounce and those are not vegan. Some bread can contain mono and diglycerides as it helps to retain moisture. It also helps to improve the texture of the bread. There are possibilities that your bread has diglycerides sourced from soya. Then it's vegan. If it's sourced from an animal then toss it. Lecithin is another ingredient that can both be sourced from egg yolk and plants. So avoid all the bread that contains lecithin, mono, and diglycerides. Only buy it when the product is certified as vegan.

What breads are vegan commonly?

There are numerous types of bread. Each has a unique taste and texture. Here are some of the vegan bread you must check out.

Sourdough bread

When the baker ferments flour, water, salt, and yeast it creates an amazing bread. Sourdough bread is great for its texture. But some bakers add milk to the bread that makes it non-vegan sometimes. So knowing ingredients is a must.

Kosher bread

Jewish diet prohibits meat with dairy products. That's why kosher bread will not contain any dairy so that it can be eaten with meat. You can take advantage of it and have some kosher bread.

Baguette

This French bread has a crispy crust and the crumb is tender. It is usually vegan. So you can enjoy this thin and long bread.

Ezekiel

This bread is made with sprouted whole grain. It's vegan often and provides a good amount of protein. As a vegan is always in the hunt for protein you can keep this bread stocked in your home.

Ciabatta

Ciabatta has a distinguishable texture of the hard crust and airy crumb. Most versions of this bread are vegan. But some bakers make it their way by putting milk instead of water. So knowing the ingredients will help.

Can I substitute nonvegan ingredients to make bread?

When you make your bread you know it's a hundred percent vegan. So practicing bread recipes more and more will make you a better baker. If the recipe calls for an egg you can add chia seed in there. If the recipe calls for butter you can use coconut oil. To replace honey you can use maple syrup. It will turn out fine.

Final thoughts

It's not pleasant to constantly hunt for vegan bread or any food in general. To make things easier you can look for a baker around your area who makes vegan bread. You will be able to get your bread from there and enjoy bread as much as you want. And independent bakers make better bread than the store-bought ones.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
