The unique, nomadic way of life, known affectionately as “van-dwelling,” is sweeping the nation, and Vice is calling it, “ the new American Dream.” Upon searching the hashtag, “#VanLife,” on Instagram, you will find millions of photos of people, just like you, sharing their adventures of converting their vans, and their lives on the road.

With many people now working from home, or on the road, van-dwelling can seem very appealing. The cost of living is reduced significantly, by the absence of utility bills, and other household expenses, not to mention, a mortgage.

Of course, this lifestyle is nothing new, with the hippies bringing it to the spotlight, back in the 1960’s. However, those hippie vans have nothing compared to the modern-day converted vans. Aside from what you may be thinking, the majority of van-dwellers are actually living quite comfortably. These days, van conversions can be incredibly impressive, with some even including fully functional bathrooms, and solar panels. While the conversions can be pricey, they do not necessarily have to be. Regardless, having a home on-the-go is considered priceless, for some individuals. Many people, who are interested in this lifestyle, but cannot fully commit to a life on the road, are still converting vans to use for weekend vacations, camping trips, and much more.

Hundred of people, all over the country, are trading in their old ways of predictability and stability, for what they feel is more valuable— Freedom. In addition to potential financial freedom, van-dwelling also offers extremely affordable travel. Without the need to search for lodging, the cost of a weekend getaway is do-able every weekend.

In the end, the van-dwelling lifestyle is absolutely not for everyone. Though not mentioned in this article, life on the road obviously has its down sides. All of us are different, and we have unique needs, priorities, and preferences. Please, do your own research to find out more.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
