It may be difficult knowing what to get your certain someone for Valentine's Day. Even more difficult is what to do during that time (especially if you don't have anyone to spend that day with). Here are some great tips and ideas to help everyone spend their Valentine's Day with others and not by themselves.
To your SO:
It may be hard looking for something to give to that certain someone. Just make sure that you know his or her interests and that you choose wisely at some things based off of how long you have actually been together.
For example, if you are dating someone and it's only been months in your relationship, take them out to eat somewhere fancy or get them some flowers and chocolate. Writing a sweet letter or gifting them a big teddy bear might be good at where your relationship is at because the more expensive gifts are ones that you give later on in life. An easy way to cheat at this is asking their friends what your significant other enjoys or wants.
For those who are in the longer term relationship range, gifting can get easier. You know them more and so giving gifts can be simple. However, don't forget what your girl (or guy) is into. Some people enjoy more romantic gifts compared to those who like simple ones. Some people would love more material gifts such as makeup, jewelry, or tickets to a sport's game. Others would like something you made personally, like a letter, food, or a sweet day planned out for the two of you. No matter what you do, just make sure to tell them you love them.
However, always remember, love is where it's at. So, if you don't have the resources or money, doing something more personal and full of your good intent will always be a good choice to go to. Handwritten letters, poetry, and songs are some easy ideas to do that your partner will throughly enjoy. Making "coupons" or 100 reasons why you love them is another good example at DIYing Valentine's Day.
If your single :
No worries. Being single in college is something common, and honestly being taken is what's rare. Go out with your gal pals and don't worry about your relationship status. Have a movie night, or go out for dinner. Go get manicures, shop with your besties, and laugh at funny memories. And if your feeling risky, ask that cute guy from class on a day out. On the other hand, guys. You can go play sports or stay in and watch tv or hang out with the boys. Ask that girl who caught your eye out for coffee, or help out someone who might need it (like that friend who's always taken). Valentine's Day is a day to go out (or stay in) with the people you love. So enjoy your day full of fun and friends!
For your mom:
A mother is someone who has given everything for you to succeed and grow in life. She is someone to love and be grateful for. Gifting her with a day off, a nice breakfast, or even planning an eventful day out with your dad (away from the day-to-day chaos) is a great way to show your love for her. Roses and chocolates all the way. Put some effort into thanking the one person who is always there for you and make something personal. DIY it and personalize it, if you're on a budget. Just showing what love you have for her will make her day.
Don't forget dad too:
Now for the dads. It's always a little harder since dads don't really expect to get anything great or big for Valentine's Day. However, these men still work really hard for you and showing him some love would probably make his day! Gifting him a coffee mug or writing him a letter about how grateful and loving you are towards him would be some good ideas you could give your dad. Go out with him and have a bonding experience over something both of you have in common. Even cooking him a meal after work would make his day.
Your Siblings included:
Yes, you need to give a little something for your brothers and sisters too. Maybe they annoy you or fight with you or even steal your things, but they are what truly helped you become yourself. Their love for you is unconditional and surprising them with a game they always wanted, or even a gift card shows that you do care about them (despite of what comes in between y'all). Promise them a dinner meal or even your help with something. But despite all of that, make sure you call them as tell him or her that you love them.
