You want the truth about Valentine’s Day? Well here it is. Most people say, “I don’t believe in Valentine’s Day you should make your significant other feel special 365 days a year.” Well in my opinion that is complete bullshit. Let’s get real for a second; I am a junior in college, which means I only have a few responsibilities. I have to stay in school, work my butt off, and not get myself in any trouble. Yes, those probably seem like three very small responsibilities but they take up a big chunk of my time. I am in a relationship myself and I personally don’t always have time in my day to make my boyfriend feel special. Now don’t get me wrong I make sure he is aware everyday that I love him with everything I have. However, do I have time to make him chocolate covered strawberries? No. Do I have time to go on a nice dinner date with him everyday? No. Now that’s from a college student’s perspective, imagine being married with children. Married couples with children have triple the amount of responsibilities that I have. They barely even have time to shower let alone spoil their husband or wife. So, this is the reason why I love Valentine’s Day so much, it's an excuse to take a break from our crazy busy lives. It is an excuse to take a step back and appreciate your significant other. It is an excuse to spoil the hell out of them. It is an excuse to be a little more “lovey dovey” than usual. Now I am not saying that you should only appreciate your significant other on Valentine’s Day but you really get to take a step back and see what you have and how special your love is for one another. Valentine’s Day is also the day of taking risks and having an extreme amount of courage that you have never had before. Whether it’s asking the girl that sits in front of you in class that you have had a crush on for months if she will be your Valentine. It’s about finally muttering those three little words and moving your relationship to the next level. It’s about sitting in the middle of a restaurant and feeling the love all around you. Valentine’s Day is about seeing flowers on doorsteps and chocolate covered strawberries. It’s about corny sticky notes being left on your windshield. February 14th is a day to be loved, love back, and feel love all around you. So whether, you are getting a Valentine’s from your Mom or your babe; be mushy, be corny, and embrace it.
