Valentine's Day is a day where you profess your love to your significant other, but personally, I think that you should do that every day. Some people choose to celebrate Valentine's Day with dinner, a movie, and heart-shaped boxes of chocolate. Others choose to go the anti-Valentine's Day route, dress in all black, and refuse to let anyone enjoy the "lovey dovey-ness" of the day. Personally, I choose participate in Galentine's Day. Shout out to season two, episode 16 of "Parks and Rec" for introducing the concept of Galentine's Day to me. Leslie Knope defines Galentine's Day as "only the best day of the year," and I think she's right.
On Feb. 13, otherwise known as the day before Valentine's Day, gal pals everywhere unite and spend the day with each other. It's a day where girls leave their boyfriends, husbands, or flings at home and really appreciate the female relationships they have. It's important to recognize Galentine's Day, since it isn't a national holiday (yet), and give it some appreciation. So, how does one have a successful Galentine's Day?
Start with brunch.
Because nothing bad has ever happened on a day that started with brunch.
Tell each other how you feel.
Your girlfriends aren't afraid to express their love for you, or tell you how it really is.
Don't even think about talking about boys.
This is a day for you and your girls! Don't give in to talking about boy drama... unless you're talking about newly leaked pictures of Harry Styles shirtless.
Dance it out to a girl power playlist.
Who run the world? GIRLS.
Most of all, enjoy time with your girlfriends.
Because Feb. 13 only comes around once a year.
Yes, Valentine's Day is an important holiday and should be celebrated. I'm not saying that Galentine's Day should take precedence over the love-filled holiday, but it is a nice way to celebrate, especially if you don't have a significant other to celebrate with. It's extremely important that we have a day where we celebrate our best relationships of all, the ones we have with our girlfriends.
