Is it all for Love or Spending

Happy Valentine Day my Love, my sweetheart!

I’ve been watching and listening to people talk about this over exaggerated day. I don’t understand why people get so excited and or nervous because they don’t know what to buy their significant other or their loved one. I’ve for the longest time couldn’t stand valentine day. I don’t know why but I couldn’t stand it. You got a bunch of dudes frantically trying to figure what to get their wives and or girlfriends because lame society makes people believe the man has to buy his woman something.

I sat down the other day and turned the television on just to watch and I saw about 20 commercials about buying flowers and oh not to mention all the jewelry commercials. There is Zale’s, Daniels, Don Roberto’s, Kay’s, Robin Brothers, downtown Los Angeles and so many others to mention. All I hear is sell, sell, sell make money, money, money.

It irritates me because since when did Valentine’s Day become such a money spending day?

I’ve sure there are women who totally love the endless flowers, jewelry and dinners. But I’ve always questioned wouldn’t they just want to spend time, actual time with their significant other. Just curious! Since when has spending money mean and how much you spend as if that’s how you love the other.

Don’t get me wrong ha-ha I am not hating on flowers or dinner and jewelry. I love flowers, flowers are so beautiful, and jewelry is beautiful.

Maybe the sociologist in me questions all these marketing bunch of crap. Oh if you lover her buy her a $1000.00 necklace, ear rings, rings and pearls. I don’t get it, what happened to a beautiful heartfelt card and a single rose it was the thought that counts. Am I missing something?

How did a massacred day turn into a madness of love day? Oh a pope declared the day of love. Who really knows because I’ve researched it and there are so many different types of information so who can really answer the information. Ha-ha

The over exaggerated money spending day continues, I’ve worked in an Italian restaurant for years back in the day and I seen it all, the wonderful guys taking out their woman to break up with them, seeing the girl cry and the guy apologizing, the guy proposing, some say yes some say no. It can turn into a bittersweet day for some people well it can be head over heels full of love.

But to those who receive gifts appreciate them. And to the woman and man who don’t have someone special to receive some chocolates, card, or flowers. You can always buy them for yourself to make yourself happy and feel special.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
