Vacation In The Caymans

Bringing in the new year in the Cayman Islands was a great way to spend time with the family!

My winter break has been great because of a lot of reasons. I brought some of my best friends down to Detroit, met some new people, and even traveled to the Cayman Islands for vacation. Coming down to the Caymans was a real eye opener for me because of all the fun events. There are many great things that my family and I have done here that I can't wait to do again, like swim with sting rays, drive on the opposite side of the road, and, of course, drink a lot. I emphasize drink a lot because everything we did involved alcohol. It is vacation, so it is allowable to say how much we really drink.

Throughout the past five days, I have experienced a lot of the island life and can't wait to come here again. Looking at the stars on a boat, sunset cruises, listening to a love band every night, and even ringing in the new year with people I had never met before. The people on the island are so nice and welcoming and I believe I might invest in a time share of some sort down here because it really is beautiful. Being able to see the sunset every night is a great sight. No clouds, just a perfect sunset right in front of you with no buildings to block it. Just water for as far as the eye can see. Another thing that I love so much is the number of stars you can see at night. It was so much clearer than populated places, I even saw a few shooting stars which were incredible! The many constellations beat out Saginaw any day, you can see some clear as day.

Coincidentally, my family booked our trip without knowing that our cousins were on the same flight and going to the same place, which ended up being a really fun way of hanging out. We hung out together twice, once to watch the Lions game (which I have no comment about), and the second time we were on a private boat together catching fish and swimming with sting rays together. It was a blast and I am really glad we came down here together. I had the best lobster of my life at the Calypso Grille. We ate it under the stars on the patio which was amazing. I ate some great food on this trip, and I want my mom make it for me when I get home because it was just that good. The lobster itself was very juicy and buttery making it so great!

One day, I would like to bring my family to the Caymans so I can share the same experience with them. This was a great family trip and I believe that it was one of my favorites to bring in the new year. I met a lot of fun people here and can't wait to tell all of my friends about my trip. If you are looking to bring in the new year somewhere, come to the Cayman Islands and the Westin hotel because it's a magical place!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
