Vacation hangover. You know that feeling when vacation is finally over, and you have to go back to your normal routine? Well, that my friends, is the feeling of surviving an entertaining trip with friends and family, and not having enough energy to unpack the car quite yet.
You’re thankful that you don’t have to make one more pit stop at McDonalds for a little while, or trade off who drives for the next stretch of the trip. But then, reality sets in. The sunburn you got from the scorching hot sun that you decided to ignore begins to peel, and you instantly regret your decision to ignore it. When you’re not peeling your crisp skin, you’re most likely on your phone, trying to let time pass in the car. Thankfully, you have the whole car ride home to look at pictures from the trip you just took. There is plenty of time to laugh at the goods and the bads from the trip.
When you finally unpack the car, whether it is hours upon arrival of your humble abode, or days after, you find quite a mess. Starting with the front of the car, where the drivers sits, you will find several water bottles and some half opened candy. Also, if you’re lucky, you will even find some empty fast-food bags from your fellow passengers. As you scan the middle of the car, you find more than enough blankets and pillows that don’t belong to you, as well as a few phone chargers and pairs of headphones. And don’t even look at the floor of your car, as you will see a combination of sand, goldfish, straw wrappers and so much more. When you finally feel up to it, you open the trunk. Immediately, bags fall on your feet, as the door hasn’t even made its way to the top yet. You yell and complain until you call in for reinforcements to help take the mountain of luggage inside. Once the car is empty, you do one last sweep through, and call it a day. It isn’t until days later when you finally pencil in the time to go get your car washed and vacuumed out.
By the time you’re finished cleaning up this vacation's mess, you are already planning the next one.
Even though vacation is a tiring process with the planning, organizing, and cleaning up afterwards, it is still worth it in the end. Because you know that you would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
