Often times, especially during the summer, I find myself feeling guilty for asking for a day or two off of work. I know that it's an inconvenience to my co-workers and directors, however – doesn't everyone feel the same way? If I could just have one day off work, I would feel so much better about things. Right now, during the summertime – a day off of work sounds better than ever. There are unlimited options for ways to spend your day off, especially during the summer, but my gut feeling has me wondering if losing the money is really worth it. After having one solid week off work, here are a few reasons to justify your next decision for asking for time off of work!
1. Vacation days were created for employees to take them
I know what you are thinking, and I can assure you that I've been in your same position before. If I take this day off, I am missing at least one hundred dollars, if not more. As the old saying goes, "money can't buy happiness" – well, money can't buy your sanity either. Take the day, even if you don't have big plans for the day!
2. Everyone needs a day to relax, that's not on the weekend
Yes, I said it – Saturday and Sunday are not enough time to get everything done, that you didn't accomplish throughout the week AND relax within forty-eight hours. Why do you think many personal business owners close on either Mondays or Fridays? Every working individual in the world needs a day off – even you!
3. The money can wait
I know, I can't believe I said it myself. There will always be an opportunity to make money. There won't always be the opportunity to spend time with your family, go on the adventure you've been dreaming of, or enjoy a day on the lake. Unfortunately, time marches on – with or without the money you'd be making.
I know that it can be tough to approach the leadership in your position, however, you will thank yourself time and time again for the days you've asked off work. Even just one day away from the office, can leave you feeling refreshed. It is so easy to get burned out, on all the wrong things. It's time to step away, take the day, and enjoy the finer things in life!
