UVA Men's Essential Style Guide

Mastering the fine line between complete tool and male fashion icon.

UVA Men's Essential Style Guide

There is a fine line between complete tool and fashion forward? Learn to dance that line with this "helpful" back-to-school style guide.

1. Salmon shorts

While these may not have as many pockets as cargo shorts, I am sure you can find some place to put all the phone numbers you’ll get from girls.

2. Sport coat

These are actually a really important staple to a man's wardrobe.

3. Khakis

You can never go wrong with a nice pair of Khakis.

4. Sperry’s

Two words: foot stank.

Your feet may (will) smell like a dying animal after you wear these bad boys all September long.

5. Patagonia

This is a unisex style, both men and women should aim to resemble tacky curtains, coaches, etc. Bonus points if you cover yourself in plastic like your grandparents cover furniture.

6. Frocket Tee

The pocket on the t-shirt replaces the pockets you no longer have because you aren't wearing cargo shorts. Fashion forward meets functional.

7. Trendy Hair Cut

There are a lot of options when it comes to this one, however, choose wisely.

8. Dad Bod

Dad bod screams confidence in your own skin and success all in one pseudo-beer gut.

Additionally, here are some reasons the ladies love the dad bod.

9. Over priced polos

Vines. Brooks Brothers. Southern Marsh. Name your brand and your ridiculous price.

Try wearing them all at once to achieve the maximum effect.

10. Sunglasses/hat combo

Be sure to wear this with your khakis and sport coat to look like a complete tool while also slaying the game.

11. Bean Boots

Similar to Sperry's, these insulated boots will produce excess foot sweat; I recommend a good pair of socks and not ever taking them off in public.

12. Bow Tie

Think Grandpa-chic.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
