I like to consider myself an expert on all things potatoes. There is not a form of potato that I will not eat unless it's covered in something like fish guts or cow poop. However, fried, mashed, boiled, in chip, fry, pancake form. I will eat it.
My point is: I love potatoes. So you can trust me when I say, Utz makes the best potato chip.
Now, I'm not talking about flavored chips. Although those are far superior as well, we're just going for the plain, old-fashioned, salted potato chip.
Why are they better? They're thinner, crispier and don't leave you with that "I think I just ate more grease than potato" type feeling. There also aren't a million weird flavors that no one actually likes.
Utz chips feel and taste homemade. At one point in time, they were.
The company was started in 1921 by William and Salie Utz at their home in Hanover, PA. They made about 50 pounds of chips an hour and would sell them to local markets. Now, Utz Chips are sold up and down the east coast as well as in wholesale clubs across the US. They even sponsor
The story of the Utz snack brand is a pretty interesting story of a small business turning into a huge success if you ask me.
Something about a small business with a quality product is a huge plus for me. Other brands try to be too fancy and sell out just to make money. Now I can't say Utz isn't in the business of snacks for the money but the way they do their business and the quality of the products is a huge giveaway.
Utz also doesn't try to over-do it with their products.
Do we really need triple-decker bacon cheeseburger deluxe or chicken chili habanero taco flavored chips? No. Didn't think so. Seems like the only reason for that is to sell product and make more money. Half the time those flavors don't taste anything close to what they're supposed to. Aren't potato chips supposed to be more about the POTATOES anyway?
A true potato fan knows the value of a good potato chip. A good potato is just a crispy, salty, thin, fried potato. That's all it needs to be and Utz is a brand that understands that. When it comes down to picking the best, I'll always pick them.
