UTSA Speaks

obtaining an interactive audience

UTSA Speaks

I've been thinking of ways to engage an audience more actively recently. I want an audience that will engage with me. I like spinning off of ideas and even having collaboration occasionally. Many of the main topics from my articles simply came from normal intellectual conversations I have had with friends. I like that and I want more of it. Putting more minds to work on something is better than one. In correlation to that, I feel like everyone has heard a lot of my opinions so I want to go out and hear other perspective on things.

I finally conjured up an idea to get a more active audience and this spring 2017 semester I will be putting it to the test. My idea is going to be through video and will be posted on here as well as on the Youtube account I founded called Beyond Productions.

Basically this is just going to be a segment called "UTSA Speaks". Myself along with some helpers will be posted up outside by the MH and the MS buildings where everyone else table tops at. We are gong to be out there with a camera, tripod, mic, and a sign that says "Let me ask you questions"; and we will do just that.

Our questions are going to start off pretty simple; just basically opinion questions on current events and we will see what we will do with it from there. What better way to represent the voice of UTSA than hearing from opinions of various students on the campus itself? Granted we can not ask EVERYONE on campus these questions but it will give some insight as to what some of the opinions and thoughts circulating around UTSA are. This is also a way for others to use their voice and speak out against things, like I have been doing. There will also be freebies to those who go out and participate with us.

I am not expecting too much from this project, I'm simply going to go out there and have fun with it and see what will come from it.

There is not a set day that we will be doing this but more than likely it will be on Mondays that we will be out there. So, if you see myself and/or my helpers out there stop by and we will put you on camera and make you famous.

I'll have retrospective article about this project at the end of the semester to see how everything turned out. Stay tuned people.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
