Homecoming week is an exciting time on UTM’s campus. There are so many different events and things to do all week.

1. Rope Pull

Rope pull is kind of like a gladiator version of tug of war. There’s two different divisions, sorority and fraternity. It begins on Monday afternoon and happens every day until the finals on Friday.

2. Lip Sync

Lip sync is an event where all of the new members in the organizations “pretend” to sing with the songs in their routine. They have to come up with a routine that matches the theme of homecoming. They of course dress up to match the theme and have music and dance. It can be very entertaining. It starts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. Also, the homecoming court nominations are introduced at lip sync.

3. Homecoming court

Homecoming queen voting is on Wednesday. All you have to do is go to the UC and they have booths set up where you can vote.

4. Pyramid

Pyramid is kind of like a cheer competition. Each organization gets a team together and performs their routine. Not to mention, it is part of the campus pep rally. Pyramid happens on Friday night.

5. Quad city

Quad city is probably my favorite part of homecoming week. All of the organizations get together on the quad and make their own booth. The booth has to tie in with the homecoming theme and best represent that organization. There’s so much going on all morning and it’s so much fun to see what everyone comes up with. The football team also does their “Skyhawk walk” through the quad at 11:00 a.m. Quad city activities begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

6. Football game

The football game is what homecoming leads up to. This year we play Austin Peay. The homecoming game starts at 2:00 p.m.

There are also all kinds of other events that happen throughout the week, such as a volleyball match, NPHC step show, and the PRSSA womanless revue. Make sure you go by the UC to check out everyone’s homecoming banners, too!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
