For those of you not aware, Tuesday, August 9 left for some heavy debate after Presidential Candidate Donald Trump spoke in Wilmington, North Carolina regarding guns and the Supreme Court. His speech defended the Second Amendment once again and the right carry. Trump also added that his opposing candidate, Hillary Clinton, "wants to abolish the Second Amendment" and take away people's guns.
Trump made a very jarring comment in his speech stating:
"Hillary wants to abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know."
Immediately following his speech, responses from Democrats and Republicans flooded online as well as on broadcasting stations. The Secret Service reported they were aware of the situation. Democrat Chris Murphy tweeted online calling Trump's statement an "Assassination threat."
Former CIA Chief, Michael Hayden spoke saying "If someone else had said that outside the hall, he'd be in the back of a police wagon now with the Secret Service questioning him."
Defending Donald Trump's shocking words was the voice of nominee for Vice President, Mike Pence who responded: Trump left pro-Second Amendment voters with a "Very clear choice" in deciding who they want for President.
Republican Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan also spoke saying Trump's statement was a "Joke gone bad" and hoped Trump would fix his mistake.
Trump tweeted "Media desperate to distract from Clinton's anti-2A stance."
Later, Hillary Clinton responded to the controversial speech by tweeting:
"A person seeking to be the President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way."
And in the simplicity of things, Hillary is right. Put aside your political differences. Forget about whether you are a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent. We as people can all agree that violence is never the answer. Wishing harm upon another human being does not and will not solve a disagreement nor be the solution to an issue. Using the Second Amendment as a way of harm to whom our President may be was not what our Founding Fathers would have wanted.
Now sure. Donald Trump may have spoken out of term, may have been misinterpreted, or may have made a bad joke. We are not perfect, mistakes are and can be made especially during a speech in front of millions of people. And yes, it is OK to speak against your other candidate. However, there is a mature and approachable way to do so while also getting your point across on whatever the issue is. It is clear that Donald Trump is pro-gun and Hillary Clinton is not. Adding to that, Clinton has never stated she is going to abolish the Second Amendment.
Concluding my argument, I leave you with this. A candidate for the President of the United States should never use violence as a solution against an opposing candidate. Love conquers hate and at the end of the day, we are ONE nation: A nation that has its differences but finds a degree of similarity and agreeableness within.
