I recently started using a journal shortly after coming to West Point. I knew it was a good way to develop as a leader and person overall, but never really recognized its importance until I actually started doing it. I now am a West Point Writing Fellow's (Peer leadership tutoring program) applicant and look to better myself as a future officer and writer in the future. I find writing as a very useful skill in life, but also in the Army. Many people have good ideas but just cannot articulate them on a piece of paper in a way that is effective and useful. I would like to think that if I generate content for your site, it would resonate with those that read it on a level that is based on reason, logic, and facts. I think the best pieces of writing are those that are irrefutable by evidence while invoking an emotional response. I think many writers can invoke an emotional response in their readers by producing something controversial or edgy, but fail to recognize the importance of facts and logic which decrease the validity of their argument. On the other hand some readers rely so much on logic and facts, but overlook the importance of a violent emotional response in the reader. Despite presenting some great content, their presentation of material lacks so profoundly that they become a diamond in the rough of great writers. I hope to bring a more comprehensive piece of writing to the table that is refreshing and new to your community's conversation.
