As a transfer student brand new to not only Purdue, but to Greek life as well, one of the main topics I'd like to cover would be how Purdue measures up next to other universities alongside common myths/misconstrued beliefs about Greek life. As a born and raised "townie" I have always known Purdue from an outsiders perspective. I have always been a devoted Purdue sports fan and supporter of the school in general, but now as an enrolled student I do not believe one can truly understand what it's like to be a Boilermaker until you actually are one. For example, if you would have asked me what Hungry Boiler, Mad Mush, or Den Pops were a year ago, I could honestly say I would have had no idea what you were talking about. Purdue: a school where school pride still burns strong even when the athletics aren’t top notch, a school where instead of girls rambling on about marrying a doctor, they all dream of scoring an engineer, a school some consider to be “ivy league” (even though most students would ague that the grading is just as hard), and a school where anything, and we mean ANYTHING could happen and we’d all still end up trudging along to class the next day. Who knew there was this whole other dimension out there? As a non-English major and avid TSM reader, I am interested in joining the staff of The Odyssey not only because I have enjoyed reading previous articles, but also as a way to combine my two favorite things: writing and Greek life.
