In A World Full Of Doubt, Don't Be Afraid To Undeniably Be Yourself

Welcome to the 21st century. We are judged based on our profiles on social media and the way our bodies look. Growing up in the age of social media presents so many challenges for us women, however, what we tend to overlook is the simple facts.

YOU ARE SO TALENTED.

If there is one thing I am a firm believer in, it is the fact that everyone is born with god-given talents. These talents look so different for everyone, however, one thing remains constant across the board. Utilizing these talents will make this world a better place. If you take something we are good at and add a little passion behind it, who knows, you may be able to have an unexplainable impact on someone's life by simply expressing yourself in your own unique way.

Being in college now, the biggest thing I see women struggle with is placing these unattainable standards on themselves. We see the person next to us score higher on a test, or we see that girl get the guy we've been going after for months now. There are so many little places in this world we all fall into comparison. Where we forget to look is the places where we are strong. We forget about the hobbies that make us who we are and how those hobbies are the reason we can find joy in times of comparison. Every single one of you is so talented. Let the wold see those talents.

What does this look like you may ask? For me, my outlet is writing. I have been writing my entire life. Often, in situations where I may feel down or discouraged, I turn to writing to help me sort out my feelings and emotions. For some, this outlet is painting, drawing, service, or anything in between. It is so important however to remember that these talents make us so different than anyone else. These talents make you unique and the world needs you to express them.

Your abilities were given to you for a reason. Taking these abilities and turning them into something is scary. What if we fail? What if we're not as good as we thought we were? The fact of the matter is, you will never find reassurance searching for approval from others. So, even if you aren't as good as you think you are... who cares!! If it is something that makes you feel powerful and also carefree, go for it.

Sometimes, finding these talents is challenging. It doesn't take soul searching to figure out what you're good at though. Take some time and think. Think about what little things you enjoy doing. What activities make you feel the most relaxed? If that doesn't work, taking a personality test can help you narrow down what you may be good at and you may just not know it yet. Lastly, be open to change. As we get older, we experience new things and learn more about ourselves. Do not place limits on yourself because you don't think you can be successful at something. The cool thing about growth is as we grow, we learn and when we learn, we can accomplish new things. If there is something you actually want to learn to do, take some time and do it.

Remember, these hobbies and passions are god-given skills. You were given them for a reason. You are meant to impact this world with your talents. Use the talents you have for good, and take some time to learn about yourself and discover new talents as well.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
