How I Used TikTok To Grow My LinkedIn Network

As I near the halfway point of my junior year, I have been thinking a lot more about the professional side of my life. A week ago, I was a junior with no internship lined up and about 15 connections on LinkedIn. Today, I have an internship secured for the spring semester and I have over 200 connections, and counting.

Are you looking to grow your professional network? Here's how I did it.

One night last week, I was doing the usual endless scroll through TikTok, when something unexpected happened; I came across a "LinkedIn following chain" video on my for you page. User @alyboekholder posted the video that started it all. Even though she posted it as a joke, the TikTok ended up accumulating over 8,000 comments of people dropping their LinkedIn names.

As someone that has been struggling to make connections, I knew this was the opportunity I've been waiting for. So, I scoured the thousands of comments and requested as many people as I could. The next morning, I woke up to a slew of notifications from people accepting my connections.

The more people I connected with, the more mutual friends I was being recommended. I even came across a Google Sheet someone created called "@alyboekholder Tiktok - LinkedIn Friends!." The sheet has over 700 young professionals' LinkedIn's listed, and is a great resource if you're looking to grow your network. It's even sorted by major, so you can find people in the same field as you.

I already knew social media was a powerful resource, but this experience really solidified that idea for me. I never expected to make so many connections from TikTok of all apps.

If you're looking for a place to start, I am open to connect with anyone! My major is public relations, and you can find me here. I have connected with over 200 young professionals looking to grow their networks, so feel free to go through my connections and request people.

2021 will be our year. Let's take advantage of this opportunity and grow our networks together!

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
