The first semester of college as told by Kimmy Schmidt

The first semester is a trying time that every girl (and guy) can find themselves struggling to make it through. While not everyone finds themselves escaping a doomsday cult and starting over in the less than hospitable New York City, starting college is still a tumultuous time with a great deal of change. In anticipation for April 15th when the second season of Unbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt comes to Netflix, here is a compilation of the struggles of first semester freshman year as told by Kimmy Schmidt and her closest comrades because females (and males) are strong.

Move in day finally arrives and you can't wait to start the next four years of your life according to a specific plan, starting with making your dorm room look like an Anthropologie showroom.

When your family sees your dorm for the first time and can't believe how small it is.

Finally meeting your new roommate(s) after an entire summer of Facebook/ Instagram stalking them.

That bittersweet goodbye to your family when you start to regret leaving home for four years.

And then seeing the cute guy living down the hall and knowing you'll be okay

The first time you walk through the dining hall for dinner and see the plethora of options.

Hearing weird sounds outside your dorm and being paranoid that all the news articles your mom forwarded you about college students being taken are going to come true.

But remembering the Krav Maga class you took before you left for school.

The night before your first college class when you decide that you are going to be an academic rockstar.

And then your first midterm doesn't go as well as you expected...

And you realize that being an adult is harder than you thought.

And you start to rethink why you came to college in the first place

Until you get your first care package from your parents.

And you decide not to let that one test derail the rest of your college experience.

But, still, nothing goes as planned and you feel like a failure.

And then you realize that the best way to enjoy your college experience is to just let go and be yourself.

All in all, the first semester of college is a roller coaster. It definitely has its highs and, unfortunately, lows. However, if we take a page from Kimmy Schmidt's book and keep on Kimmying, all will be okay and you will see why these are known as "the best years of your life".

And always remember:

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).
