USC Brings "Pitch Perfect" To Life

The University of South Carolina has three established a cappella groups (for those of you who don't know, a cappella is a genre that creates all music without instruments, only vocals), all of which are culminating this Spring semester with song! When you're racking your mind for new ways to procrastinate on studying for finals this weekend, I suggest you make your way to the performances of some of USC's most talented, hidden gems.

1. The Carolina Gentlemen

The Carolina Gentlemen is USC's all-male a cappella group. What's better than boys singing in bowties? Not much. The Gents bring their A-game to every performance, and can be seen this Sunday, April 26th at 7:30 at USC's Public Health Auditorium for their final concert of the semester. The boys will perform songs new and old, featuring some of their senior soloists as the group bids them farewell.

For more information about The Gents and their upcoming performances, visit their Facebook or Twitter accounts.

2. The Cocktails

The Cocktails are USC's all-female a cappella group. With these vocal vixens, a cappella has never been more intoxicating. Their final concert will be held this Friday, April 24th at 7:00 in the Williams Brice Nursing Building Auditorium. This performance boasts a mix of classics, your current favorite pop and country songs, as well as some throwbacks that are sure to have you reminiscing on your favorite era-- middle school. The Cocktails also plan to celebrate the release of their third album with an album release party.

For more information about these events, and to keep up to tabs with these sassy singers, make sure to check out their event page on Facebook as well as their Instagram.

3. Cockappella

Last but certainly not least is USC's premier coed a cappella group, Cockappella. Because the only thing better than an all-girl or all-guy singing group, is one that combines the magic that both have to offer! I actually have the pleasure of being a member of this group of talented, singing weirdos. Cockappella's final concert will be sure to wow you with some old school throwbacks, as well acca-awesome pop hits featuring an unexpected punch. On Sunday, April 26th at 5:00 at Jake's in Five Points, celebrate the end of the semester with a group of talented, fun musicians (and a pitcher of beer... or three). Also make sure to check out Cockappella on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and now Soundcloud!

In addition, check out this video of one of Cockappella's performances this weekend in Augusta, GA!

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.

The dynamics of any friend group are usually determined by the personalities which make it up. Chances are, while personalities may overlap, each person in your friend group holds his or her own place. It is the differences which bring the groups together and keep them functioning. No matter how functionally dysfunctional your friend group may be, if you're anything like me, you feel absolutely blessed to have found such a wonderful group of humans to call "your people."
