It is right in the middle of the 2018 Fifa World Cup and there have been a lot of high-quality matches that have brought excitement to the world. This excitement has even reached the United States, where the national team disappointingly failed to qualify for the World Cup.

As a fan of the sport and as someone who watches the World Cup matches regularly, it saddens me that I'm never able to see what the United States could do against different international teams as well. Even if they lost every game, it would be a joy seeing the team compete on an international level where the best in the world compete.

People in the United States should get a wake-up call from this whole experience. People should never want to miss out on such an exciting event ever again. Also, more people should realize how intense and great of a sport soccer is to watch and play. Even if one just watches a random match that is on during the World Cup, there will always be images shown of the team's fans, and every time one is shown during good and bad times, there is such a clear passion on their face.

This is a look that very few other sports get because not only is a fan base together, but an entire country is the fan base. This being the case gives every fan a connection with another no matter what city you're from. There is such a strong sense of nationalism during these times and people of the United States are missing out on that.

I believe the wake-up call has already happened for the majority of the soccer fans within the country based off of this missing of the World Cup. The more important wake-up call, however, must happen with people that are just very casual soccer fans because if more people push the soccer effort within the United States, then the more priority it will take within the sports world.

This change isn't going to happen overnight, but hopefully, this wake-up call will happen before the 2022 World Cup so every soccer fan from young to old can feel that strong sense of nationalism and passion that every fan of teams that are in the 2018 World Cup is feeling right now.
