Recently, us Marvel fans learned some news about our favorite red, white, and blue clad hero. Steve Rogers will, most likely, NOT be Captain America in the upcoming Infinity War movies. That's right. Director duo Anthony and Joe Russo, otherwise known as The Russo Brothers, have confirmed that the blonde we have come to know and love will no longer be picking up that star studded shield. Cue screaming fans, right? Well, not all of us.
As we know from Civil War, Steve gave up his shield after an epic battle with Tony Stark/Iron Man and opted to save his friend from both the authorities and Iron Man's wrath. Then he proceeded to break out Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Falcon from jail, sans the red, white and blue costume. They all (we can assume all of them) moved to Wakanda and a letter was mailed to Tony with Steve telling him that should he ever need them to just call. This lead many fans to believe that Steve had just created the Secret Avengers. But the focus is him no longer being Captain America but just Steve, giving up his mantle as the well-known hero.
But have no fear movie fans. Just because Steve will no longer be rocking that patriotic suit does not mean Captain America is dead in any sense of the word. In the comics, Steve actually died in Civil War and the mantle of Captain America was passed onto Bucky Barnes, who later passed it on to Sam Wilson. Now that the Russo Brothers have confirmed Steve won't be the Captain, we cannot help be think that Bucky Barnes now will be (since Sebastian Stan, who plays Barnes, has a massive deal with Marvel).
In my opinion, someone who has been a fan of Marvel since I was little, and became a megafan as a teen, I love this. Personally, I really do. Captain America, in my head, has not just been a person but an idea. A symbol for truth and justice and to do what you believe is to be right. Captain America proves that anyone can become anything and that, should you work hard enough, you'll come out on top. Should you go against the norm of what everyone is saying to stand up for your beliefs, then you, in a way, are Captain America. As long as the ideals of this character are passed onto whoever should play him next, aka Barnes (fingers crossed), I think we'll all be okay.
Steve Rogers will still be in Infinity Wars despite no longer being his superhero persona. In fact, we don't know if he'll have a persona at all. But that's alright. Because even though we will no longer see him gracing our screens in that bad af costume, he will still live on in our hearts.
