'The Polar Express' Is Actually The Worst Christmas Movie

A bell does not symbolize belief in Santa in my book.

There are many people who absolutely love and adore ‘The Polar Express,’ I am not one of those people. No part of me ever wants to watch this movie, nor have I ever enjoyed watching this movie. What’s even worse is that I have avoided this movie for so long, that I had to watch it to remember exactly what I do not like about it. Just thinking about this movie makes me cringe, and here are the cringe-worthy things that really get me:

1. The kids are SO annoying (and not the brightest).

WHY DID HE GET ON A TRAIN OF STRANGERS? It literally makes no sense, like how much sketchier can something get. I love Santa as much as the next person, but I know for a fact I am not getting on a train of a bunch of strangers to prove Santa exists.

2. The songs are absolutely terrible.

I love (and I mean LOVE) hot chocolate just as much as the next person, but I have never witnessed a worse kind of singing than that of the “Hot Chocolate Song,” in this movie.

I honestly don’t even know if you can count it as singing, it’s literally just the conductor yelling, “WE GOT IT!” “When Christmas Comes To Town,” isn’t that bad, but it is still not a bop worthy song.

3. A bell does not symbolize belief in Santa in my book.

I refuse to let a cringy movie demote believing in Santa to whether these kids could hear bells or not. Santa is definitely so much more than that. He is an icon that is not represented by some bells.

4. These kids are not freezing to death in the North Pole with only their pajamas on, please explain.

I see people walking around all the time in parkas when it is 60 degrees out (which I also do not understand), but this movie is trying to tell me that these kids could sing outside at the back of the train without so much as a coat? This literally does not make any sense. I know these kids had to be freezing.

5. Everything about this movie is just cringe-worthy.

I don’t really know how to explain it better than that, I literally cringed for fifteen minutes straight, trying to watch it and I could not watch it anymore. The plot is just weird and creepy, a train picks up random kids in the middle of the night to take them to the North Pole, just why? Avoiding this movie as a child may have been one of the hardest things I had to do because they played it in school ALL THE TIME! Talk about some rough days.

Now that I have vented my hatred for ‘The Polar Express’ I will be watching Hallmark Christmas movies, Frosty the Snowman, The Grinch (the cartoon version, I also do not like the real people version of this movie), and many other Christmas movies to get me through this holiday season.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
