It seems like recently, we millennials have been obsessing over true crime media. Whether it be through documentaries or podcasts, the art of reinvestigating bizarre and mysterious cases of murder or abductions has become incredibly popular over the last couple of years. I think it is because everyone loves a story where we don't really know what happened to someone, or if law enforcement caught the wrong guy, while a killer is still at large. That captivating factor of mystery entices and brings forth the inner sleuth in all of us, and we can't get enough of it.
If you were ever obsessed with the ever popular podcast "Serial", then boy, have I found a treat for you.
I recently came across the podcast titled "Up and Vanished" on the iTunes top podcast list. When I found it, it was #2 on that list. I read the description and instantly subscribed.
I was hooked in the first few minutes. The coolest part in my opinion? The host is a native of Atlanta, and went to high school right down the street from me! A few of my friends even know him personally. His name is Payne Lindsey, he writes and directs film content.
Lindsey and Tenderfoot, set out to investigate the Tara Grinstead case, a missing person cold case that happened 11 years ago in a small town in South Georgia. This is Lindsey's first podcast.
I won't spoil anything, but Tara's case is as eerie as it gets. Basically, she was a 30-year-old high school teacher and former beauty pageant queen in Ocilla, Georgia. On October 22, 2005, she mysteriously disappeared and has never been seen since. Her body was never found, and no one was charged with anything. No one seems to know what happened to her, despite it being a very small and close-knit town.
You know what they say, small town, big secrets. (I don't know if anyone actually says that, lol)
Lindsey's podcast documents his investigation into the case as he talks to as many people as possible to try and find any new details in hopes of figuring out what might have happened to Grinstead. His investigation quickly heats up with new details about the case that have never been talked about before. It's pretty amazing.
I was really impressed with the quality and production of the podcast. From the music to the narration, Lindsey has made it so where listeners are begging for more. And he just announced that there will be a second season coming this January. The finale of the season is set to be released very soon.
Anyway, here's a link to a trailer on Lindsey's website.
