I just finished watching "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" on Netflix, and I was genuinely impressed by how real, yet unrealistic the film was. Needless to say, I do love my romantic comedies, but they honestly result in fantasies that most likely will never happen. I'm sorry to be a buzzkill, but it's true!
1. Serenading you in a stadium to fix all the issues
GiphyHe sounds good and all, but what happens to all the issues?? Do they just magically disappear after one song?
2. Doing things that would definitely be considered a bit weird in reality
GiphyThese signs are a tad bit creepy, and this definitely isn't realistic given all the technology we have now.
3. He’ll love you AFTER you change
GiphyOk, this is just a bummer because you shouldn't have to change for a guy.
4. The guy just HAPPENS to be there when you’re in trouble
GiphyDamsel in distress, much? How did he know your exact location and match the time?
5. The guy will fight for your love no matter what
GiphyFighting for a love that isn't meant to be is just tiring and short-lasting.
6. A guy will die for you even though you only met a week ago
GiphyThey literally met a week ago, and THERE WAS SPACE FOR TWO!
7. Your significant other will love you regardless of your physical appearance
This is actually debatable, but honestly physical appearance is one of the first things that draws you towards a person.
8. Kissing in the rain
GiphyI doubt it's romantic with all that cold rain dripping down your face and hair getting in the way.
9. Airport reunions and declarations of love
GiphyHow did they find the person in a huge airport, and how the heck did they even get past the security check?
As much as I love these rom-coms, they set unrealistic expectations for both guys and girls. Maybe love is like this during the honeymoon stage, but in reality, love is hard and sacrificial. I mean, I've never really been in love, but looking at others' relationships makes me doubt that these rom-coms reflect real relationships.
