The Kiwanis Club of Reno Sunrisers continues an exciting summer, filled with community service, leadership opportunities, and fellowship with Kiwanis Family members at the University of Nevada, Reno and in high schools.
On July 22, Jeremy Tiedt, director of advising, recruitment, and retention at the University's Ansari Business School, visited, speaking about workplace readiness skills and continuing education.
The University stays active with Kiwanians through service as well. Nevada Circle K International will volunteer alongside Kiwanians at Hot August Nights this upcoming weekend. Later this month, our clubs will team-up at Reno Air Races. Events like these let Circle K members not only serve the community but also fellowship with long-time members of Kiwanis International. (Plus, events with Kiwanians award points towards the District-wide Member Recognition Program.)
Of course, Circle K members have a knack for service, even after graduation. A past Circle K governor, Kiwanians mentioned, directs the Kiwanis Family House in Sacramento.
Whereas Circle K members have Fall Training Conference in Sonora, Calif. to look forward to this October, Kiwanians have Club Leadership Education training. Theirs will take place at the state capital, in Carson City.
Ongoing projects for our Kiwanians include donating to a food pantry and collecting box tops for education. At the month’s end, Key Club, the Service Leadership Program for high school students, will participate in a joint event and BBQ with Kiwanis before school starts.
The next Divisional Council Meeting of Kiwanis Division 23 is set for August 20. (See our division lieutenant governor for more information.) Circle K members are welcome to attend, where they can learn more about other local Kiwanis clubs and Service Leadership Programs.
With guests like University administrators in attendance, Kiwanis clubs continue to spread service to local areas like ours.
Kiwanians hold their meetings every Friday morning from 7-8 a.m. at the Gold 'N' Silver restaurant at the corner of 4th and Vine streets in Reno. Nevada Circle K members are welcome and encouraged to attend, with complimentary breakfast biweekly.
Kiwanis clubs, located in 80 nations, help their communities in countless ways. Each community’s needs are different—so each Kiwanis club is different. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things happen.
