In case you missed it the Grammy's were this weekend. Artist across many different musical genres were awarded for their hard work and creativity in their craft this weekend.
I was more than excited to watch this year. I love the glitz and glam of the Grammy's and the killer performances. My heart melted when Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood sang together. This years Grammy's hit me with all kinds of feels.
Then Taylor Swift won album of the year and I felt Tori Kelly types of feels all over this situation.
I know its an unpopular opinion but I think T-Swift is totally overrated. Her music is stale. Tay, we've heard it all before. You miss your old beau or you're wondering if you'll find a new one. Is there anything else going on in your life? Or are you too busy shaking off the haters to live one? (If you have to write an entire song about your haters there's probably a good reason you have so many.)
I think music is art. You need to be creative, take risks and make a statement. What statement are you making Taylor? What risks have you taken?
Other nominees in this category included The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar both of whom push the limits of what topics their music will covers. They take risks. They're telling stories with blunt and refreshing honesty. Chris Stapleton's album hits in the feels so hard Rolling Stones said "each of the album's 14 tracks go straight for the emotional jugular."
If you're into over synthesized vocals, stale music, and cliched stories then maybe T-Swift is the girl for you. You probably stand by the Grammy's choice in awarding her the W for album of the year. I'm not into that though. I want to see artist who take risks get rewarded for them. Taylor knows exactly what to do to make some money, but should the Grammy's celebrate that or making great art? With Taylor's win I think it's safe to say art isn't the Grammy's first concern.
