Unpopular Opinion Of A High School Senior

I see an article at least once a week on Facebook that one of my friends has shared about 'advice from a high school senior' or 'top 10 things to do as a senior'. I read them all, and I think the same thing about them all: I can't relate. All the mushy stuff about appreciating your friends and parents, attending sporting events and preserving your childhood while you can. I couldn't feel more opposite if I tried. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm ready to be done with high school. Trust me, I know there's only a few percent of us out there, but, I'm that person who knows exactly what I want to do with my life. I know what I want to major/minor in, I know what profession/job I want, I know what I love to do and I have all the plans already in place to do it. Honestly, I've been ready to be done with high school since Junior year. So no, I don't care about going to as many high school sporting events as possible. Some people’s lives revolve around these sports, but not to me. I could care less about going to high school sporting events, I couldn’t care less about learning all the chants and songs, I couldn’t care less about dressing up in outfits and taking pictures before the game to put on Instagram. I don't want to appreciate what's left of my childhood because I'm ready to be an adult. I don't want to 'spend as much time as I can with my family' because I know I'll still see them and that they're always there if I need them. I don't want to go out and party with friends every weekend because the majority of them won't even matter next year. I want to move on. I want a fresh start. I want to finally chose to be someplace that I want to be and not be stuck wherever my parents are. All I know is that I'm ready to be done with highschool, and I'm not going to be the one at graduation crying over all the good memories I've made over the past four year (honestly if you see me crying, it will probably be because I'm so happy) I'm here to inform you that no, high school might not the best four years of your life. For some, it can be, but there's also us out here that can't wait for it to be done.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
