Anyone who went to UofL, or is currently attending, is well aware of the meal plan that we are forced to pay for. For anyone who isn't aware of what the meal plan is, it's money that we are required to put onto our cardinal card. Different amounts are available depending on the type of student. For me, being a commuting student I have to put AT LEAST 275$ onto this card and get this, if you don't spend all of this money before the end of the semester the University takes what's left. How messed up is that? They act like they aren't getting over 10,000 a year from me already. What has brought this to my attention more this semester is that my habits have changed. I have become healthier and I eat much healthier. Being a commuting student I brought my lunch from home and kept it in a lunch box until I got the chance to eat. I've eaten cold chicken and rice and broccoli more times than I'd like to because there isn't a microwave here.
Now I'm sure some students who read this may roll their eyes and say I'm crazy because the SAC is nothing but food places. You're not wrong. Let's look at the places to eat in the SAC. On the first floor there's a Starbucks, Papa Johns, Wendy's and Subway. Not really feeling like eating my weight in grease so we'll take a walk upstairs and see what they have to offer up there. Marks Feed Store and Chick-fil-a. There are other fast food restaurants to eat at throughout campus. Out of all of these places to eat I found one healthy place to eat and it's a little salad place in the SAC. I understand that healthy food is way more expensive than throwing some fast food together.
I'm not saying everyone needs to be a health nut and forever give up fast food because we all love some pizza sometimes. What I'm saying is there needs to be an option to have some healthy grilled chicken and vegetables if someone wants that. I'm not going to go into the facts but there are many ways that a few healthy meals can improve your mood and your overall health. All i'm trying to say is the SAC is massive and UofL is expanding onto it so there's plenty of money and room to add a dang juice bar.
