Every college campus is equipped with its own set of slang that catches on once you become a student. It comes with the territory, and nobody questions it. It's a common language among students. However, nobody outside of your school will ever know what you're talking about, so here's a list of terminology that will help outsiders navigate through life at the University of Kentucky.
Cats By 90.
Whether the Wildcats win by one point or 50 points, it'll always be #CatsBy90 to us. A victory is a victory regardless, but crushing the other teams never hurts.
Willy T.
This is the name of our enormous library. You'll either find people pulling all nighters there or people who come to socialize and whistle the Hunger Games tune until it's echoing through every floor. Willy T is everyone's homie.
Rupp.
This is the home of our beloved basketball team. It's where the magic happens and where chaos ensues.
Caturday.
This is the best day of the week. A Caturday, especially for home games, are the most chaotic, prideful, blue day to ever exist. People go all out for Wildcat tailgates, and there's no better way to celebrate than a Caturday in the Bluegrass.
BBN.
BBN is short for Big Blue Nation, and it's the greatest group of humans you'll ever meet. BBN is the loudest and proudest bunch of fans that know how to get rowdy while maintaining their Southern class.
The JC.
This means Johnson Center, which is the gym on campus. Personally, I've been inside maybe twice, but "JC" does sound a lot more enticing than "the gym," so I can see why the name stuck.
Three Goggles.
When in doubt, throw up the three goggles. You'll always have someone yelling at you and telling you to do this. Pretty much make the "OK" symbol with your hand, and stick it in front of your eye. This is always the right move, especially once basketball season rolls around.
The Bowl.
This is the land of student tailgating (or at least it used to be). Back in the day, as in last year, the bowl was filled with tents from different organizations that you could travel between, all within walking distance. It hasn't been the same lately, but it's still a UK icon.
The 90.
Although the 90 has recently gone through some major changes, it's still the heart of south campus. This is the number one spot on campus to get picked up when you need a ride, especially if you're waiting on your driver on the weekends.
POT.
This stands for Patterson Office Tower, one of the main buildings on UK's campus. There's so much going on inside that it's possible to get lost or confused, but it's a good landmark point on campus if you ever get confused about where you are. Plus, you have to take a picture with the James Patterson statue at some point in your college career.
State Street.
Don't be fooled, State Street is much more than an off-campus housing location. It may seem like an ordinary street with less than decent college housing, but it is arguably the most exciting place for a UK student to be, especially during basketball season. Swing by sometime. Burn a couch or two.
